A COMPLETE GUIDE TO CAST IRON TEAPOTS Cast Iron teapots, known as Tetsubin teapots in Japan were first made in the 7th and 8th century and after the advent of Sencha Green Tea, these teapots became a household item for tea brewing all over China and Japan. Because these teapots are made with natural iron, the water boiled in them gives a unique flavour, resulting in the tea brewed to taste better than when brewed in other teapots or kettles. A traditional way of brewing tea Those who are not really into the art of tea making will not realise how important a part is played by some of the little things they overlook, such as temperature, steeping time, the equipment, quality of the loose tea leaves and the quality of the water. Cast iron teapots have been used by tea lovers over the years to brew their favourite cup of tea. Apart from the health benefits of using cast iron, tea enthusiasts swear that they give more flavourful tea. Cast iron absorbs heat evenly, ensuring the water heats up steadily over time. This gradual approach, even heating while the loose tea leaves are floating in the water infuses the tea flavour into the water perfectly, giving the tea a pronounced flavour and extracts the healthy nutrients from the tea leaves more effectively. Caring for your cast iron teapot 3 To clean after use, use a dry cloth and wipe the inside of the teapot while still warm. Never use the cast iron teapot as a stove top kettle. Never place in a dishwasher, microwave or expose it to oil or salt. Use only for brewing tea to avoid damaging the enamel lining. Never use detergents or abrasive pads to wipe the cast iron teapot, only clean water for rinsing and a clean cloth for drying. Never leave the teapot filled with tea or water for long periods of time. If the teapot is warm, don t cool it off suddenly, let it cool slowly on it s own. To insure years of flavourful tea, never use kitchen utensils that will scratch the inside glaze of the cast iron teapot.
