It is recommended this barbecue is assembled by two people. Assembly tools are included. As with any barbecue, care must be taken to prevent heat damage to anything around or underneath it. Do not use water on the barbecue while hot as this will damage the finish. Warnings take note of the following advice: Great care has been taken during production to remove sharp edges, but handle all components with care to avoid possible injury. This barbecue is FOR OUTDOOR USE ONLY. Stand the barbecue on a safe, solid, level surface, well away from flammable items such as wooden fences or over-hanging tree branches. Do not install or use in or on recreational vehicles and/or boats. CAUTION! Keep well away from heat sensitive materials and objects. CAUTION! To avoid damage to property, ALWAYS place this barbecue on a surface which is suitably heat resistant as it will get extremely hot during operation. CAUTION! To avoid injury always bear in mind the surface directly underneath this barbecue will get very hot during operation and will remain very hot for sometime afterwards. Always keep feet, other limbs and all property/items well away from this area. CAUTION! Do not use spirit or petrol for lighting or re-lighting! Use only firelighters complying to EN 1860-3! Never handle charcoal/briquettes after lighting. Keep children and pets away. An adult should always be in charge of the barbecue. NEVER leave a hot barbecue unattended. ATTENTION! Argos/RSH- 015049/012012 DO NOT MOVE DURING USE - ALWAYS allow to cool before moving. Do not leave the barbecue unattended when extinguishing the coals until they have completely cooled down to avoid personal injury. Ensure the coals have completely burnt out and cooled down before removing the ash. Store away ONLY when the barbecue is completely extinguished and cool. Keep a fire extinguisher and water spray handy. Hot fat may drip out at the bottom of the fire bowl so always keep feet clear. If fire flares up due to dripping fat, douse flames lightly with fine water spray. CAUTION! Always make sure the barbecue is fully extinguished and completely cool before applying any covers, (not included), or storing away remember coals can remain hot for some time and could re-ignite under certain conditions UNLESS fully damped down and/or extinguished. CAUTION! NEVER STORE a barbecue indoors unless ALL coals and ash have been totally removed and thrown away outdoors and all barbecue surfaces have been cleaned and are cool, otherwise this could lead to fire and/or emissions of poisonous gases which could cause death. REMEMBER - DO NOT use indoors! - For OUTDOOR use only. Before Starting Assembly The following are a few tips to help assemble the barbecue quickly and successfully: Check that no parts are missing by placing all of the individual parts on an empty, flat surface (we reserve the right to make minor technical alterations, such as the content of the small parts bag). To avoid losing any small components ensure the assembly area does not have any cracks or openings. Carefully sort out the small parts, as some of the screws and bolts, for example, are very similar and can be easily confused. Check all parts carefully and compare them to the Parts List. Do not improvise missing or damaged components/parts. If, despite careful factory checks, a component is missing, please, in the first instance, call the MasterChef Helpline on 0844 809 4871. If the barbecue is damaged or faulty then replace all the parts back in the box and return to the store with your receipt as proof of purchase. Assembly tools are included. Only use other tools that are intact and suitable. Worn or unsuitable tools will not allow sufficient tightening of the screws and bolts, and will damage them to the extent that they can no longer be turned. Even if not experienced at DIY, it should take less than one hour when two people work together on the assembly. Select a solid, level area with plenty of space that is clean and dry for assembly. Always follow the illustrations in this manual to fit all joining parts (screws, bolts, nuts, etc). It is essential that the instructions are followed in the order they are specified. Read the text for each step before carrying it out. 2

1 4 Instructions For Use Always have heat-proof gloves, long-handled barbecue utensils (available from most DIY stores and garden centres) and an appropriate cooking thermometer to check the internal temperature of barbecued meats to hand. Keep children and pets away. An adult should always be in charge of the barbecue. NEVER leave a hot barbecue unattended. ATTENTION! This barbecue will become very hot during operation. DO NOT touch metal parts of the barbecue until it has completely cooled to avoid burns. The barbecue handles will be hot and unsafe to touch during use - wear protective heat-resistant gloves. Keep a fire extinguisher and a water spray handy. If fire flares up due to dripping fat, douse flames lightly with fine water spray. Using for the first time When using the barbecue for the first time, follow the instructions below and heat the barbecue for about 30 minutes with the cooking grill in place, without food, so that the food-safe coating is hardened (as with any barbecue). Lighting the Charcoal or Briquettes/Cooking WARNING! Do not use spirit or petrol for lighting or re-lighting! The jet of lighting fluid could become alight and cause serious harm. Use only firelighters complying to EN 1860-3. Never handle charcoal or briquettes after lighting. Follow firelighter product instructions and warnings (firelighters not included). WARNING! WHEN LIGHTING ALWAYS take extra care. Keep your head and arms from hanging over the barbecue cooking surface. With the lid removed and the air vents in the ash collector open: Place three or four firelighters on the charcoal grill. Place a few pieces of charcoal or briquettes around and over the firelighters leaving space for air flow and to access them with a match. Light the firelighters. When they have caught fire, using long handled barbecue tongs, add more charcoal/briquettes to create a small pyramid. It is not advisable to completely fill the grilling rack as the barbecue may become far too hot to cook successfully. DO NOT place the lid on the barbecue whilst the charcoal/briquettes are heating up. When burning is established, spread the charcoal/briquettes out evenly with long handled tongs. The fire is ready for cooking when white ash or an even red glow is visible and the coals break up easily. Allow 30-45 minutes. DO NOT cook when there are flames. The barbecue is only ready to cook food when the flames have died down and the charcoal/briquettes have a coating of ash. CAUTION! To avoid injury always bear in mind the surface directly underneath this barbecue will get very hot during operation and will remain very hot for sometime afterwards. Hot fat may also drip out at the bottom of the fire bowl so always keep feet, other limbs and all property/items well away from this area. Ensure that the cooking grill is properly positioned in the grill supports before placing the food, using long handled tongs, on the cooking grill. To retain the heat during cooking place the lid with the vent open on the grill. To avoid heat loss try not to lift the lid too often whilst the food is cooking. Open or close the vents in the ash catcher and lid to adjust the air flow to slow down or speed up the burning of the charcoal/briquettes. Closing all the vents completely greatly reduces the air flow and assists in extinguishing the fuel. Use an appropriate cooking thermometer to check the internal temperature of barbecued meats have met the appropriate minimum temperatures before serving. Meats not cooked through properly can lead to illness. 14
1 5 Care Instructions Follow these instructions to maintain the appearance and life of this barbecue. When finished cooking, to assist with extinguishing the charcoal/briquettes, put the lid on the barbecue. Ensure the lid and ash catcher vents are closed. Use old cinders, sand or a fine water spray to help extinguish the coals. The fuel can take several hours to extinguish. When the charcoal has completely cooled down, remove all the ash. Damp ash increases rust. Remaining charcoal/briquettes can be retained for future use. REMEMBER: NEVER leave a hot barbecue unattended. Cleaning CAUTION! To help avoid injury or damage to property, it is very important to clean and maintain your barbecue after every use. To clean the grill, soak the cooking grill and tools in hot soapy water when the barbecue is completely cool as soon as possible after use. Leaving till later to clean will make it much more difficult to remove the dried on food particles. When finished cooking, never pour cold water directly on the coals to extinguish them as this may damage your grill. Inspect your barbecue before every use - the barbecue should be clean and in good working order. Storage Protect from severe weather conditions. Store in a cool dry place. Ensure it is cool and cleaned of all ash and unused fuel/coals before storage. (See Warnings at the start of this manual) A barbecue cover is recommended for protection when not in use. The barbecue must be cooled before the cover is put in place. Covers must be removed periodically to minimize moisture build up and damage to the barbecue, as most covers are not breathable. WARNING It is important to replace barbecue parts if they show signs of fatigue, corrosion or damage. Please note: Continuing to use an appliance which is damaged could cause injury or damage to property. CARE AND PROTECTION OF STAINLESS STEEL SURFACES This barbecue features stainless steel components. All stainless steel grades require a level of care and protection to retain their appearance. Stainless steels are not immune to corrosion and they ARE NOT maintenance-free, contrary to popular public perception. Stainless steels require frequent cleaning with fresh water to avoid oxidation and other corrosive issues. Brushed-finish stainless steel requires frequent cleaning and care, to maintain its quality of appearance. Without adequate care it is realistic to expect that it will show signs of corrosion in time. Protection/Cleaning of Stainless Steel Parts After assembly, and/or cleaning it is recommended to apply a thin layer of olive oil with a clean rag, to all exposed stainless steel areas. This should then be polished in and buffed off with another clean rag to a non-oily finish. This process will aid protection against dirt and other corrosive contaminants, by providing a temporary food-safe shield. The olive oil layer also makes future polishing and removal of fingerprints easier. This process should be repeated frequently when cleaning your grill. 15
1 6 Barbecue Cover It is recommended a barbecue cover should be used at all times when it is not in use to protect against the weather. However it is vital to understand that unless the barbecue is cool, clean and dry when the cover is fitted, use of a cover can in fact be detrimental. A cover placed on a warm, wet or unclean barbecue (or any mix of these factors) can in fact be a very effective corrosion breeder! The barbecue should always be cool, cleaned of any surface contaminants, charcoal/briquettes or dirt and thoroughly dry before a protective cover is fitted. This is especially important before a barbecue is stored for any length of time ie: if the barbecue doesn t get frequent use, or when the barbecue is stored away over winter months. In order to maintain the quality of the finish of the stainless steel parts of this barbecue, be vigilant with care and maintenance according to this advice. 16
