POPSTARS! girls just wanna have fun Create your very own girl band. Decide on a name for your band, hold a photo shoot and design a CD cover for your first single! sing-a-long Hold a karaoke or wii/singstar night! make a music video Have a go at making your own music video. You don t have to have expensive equipment. You could use a CD player for the music and your phone, a camera with a video mode or a video camera if you access to one. The main thing is to have fun! design your own mansion Imagine that you are a popstar and have millions of pounds. What would you like your house to look like? How many rooms would it have? What kind of gadgets would it have? Cut items out of a catalogue and stick them on a sheet of paper to create a collage. Write down how much everything costs. Add it all up at the end and see how much you ve spent on furnishing your mansion! poptastc taps At the end of Guide meetings we usually sing taps. Come up with your own funky version of taps! What about a rap or rock style version? (Adapt this for different sections). try a new musical instrument See if you can get somebody to visit your unit so that you can try out a new instrument. airbrushing Photographs in magazines are often airbrushed.this means that the photos have been adjusted using some computer software to make them look better. Have a go at the airbrushing quiz and see if you can identify which images are the original images and which have been airbrushed. Some discussion points: - What are the differences betweent the photos? - Do you think it is ok to airbrush celebrities? Yes or No? Explain why - What impact do you think airbrushing has on people who read a lot of celebrity magazines? - Would you like to be airbrushed if you were going to appear in a magazine? Explain why
AT THE THEATRE get acting! rehurse a scene from a theatre show or create your own Here are some popular Broadway and West End shows: Mamma Mia, The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Billy Elliott, Oliver and The Lion King. Have a go a performing a scene out of one of these shows in small groups. You could even take a scene from a well known film and turn it in to a theatre show. Make your own clapper board A clapper board is used on film sets to indicate the start of filming. It makes it easier to edit the footage later. Have a go at making your own clapper board! You could use an old cardboard box, black and white paper and chalk. Use a butterfly pin to connect the top and bottom so that the board moves up and down. Design a set for your theatre show What would it look like? What kind of scenery would you include? If you re not able to physically make the scenes, sketch it out on paper or make a small mock-up using an empty cereal box. Design an outfit or costume Design some costumes for your theatre show or an outfit for the main character. If you re not able to physically make the costume, sketch it out on paper. MOVIE STARS which film? quiz Which films or theatre shows do these scenes come from? To make it easier, provide the answers for the girls to match up. (Quiz questions and answers available at the back of this pack). sparkle like the stars Movie stars love expensive jewellery. Have a go at making some of your own. Try and use sparkly materials like tin foil, shiny paper and glitter. You could use florists wire as a base for a bracelet or necklace. How about creating you own links bracelet using small paper chains covered in foil? See how creative you can be! hollywood handprints The walk of fame can be found in Hollywood. It is a tribute to artists who have made a significant contribution to film, radio, television and music industries. Along the walk of fame you will find handprints of many celebrities. Have a go at creating your own Hollywood Handprints. You could use quick dry clay or oven bake clay - available from a local craft shop. hold an awards evening or after show party Hold an awards evening or after show party where everyone dresses up. Create a red carpet, present some oscars (maybe awards for the most helpful guide, funniest guide etc), create your own movie star signature, some of the girls could act as the paparazzi and take photos of everyone, make some movie snacks (ideas on the next page).
MOVIE SNACKS make some fresh popcorn You can make popcorn using a foil container with a lid and some tea light candles. Pour some popcorn kernels (available in health food shops) in to the container and then add some cooking oil (enough to coat the kernels). Place the lid on the container and use a washing peg to hold the container over the lit tea lights. The more tea lights the quicker the kernels will pop! Alternatively, buy some microwave popcorn from your local supermarket! easy nachos Place alternate layers of tortilla chips and grated cheese in an overproof dish. 15 mins in the oven on 160 degress and the cheese should be nicely melted. Use guacamole, salsa and sour cream for dips. Alternatively you can put the nachos in the microwave for 1-2 mins. chocolate coverd rasins Melt some chocolate in the microwave or melt the chocolate in a glass bowl over a pan of hot water. Use cocktail sticks to dip and coat the raisens. Place them on a sheet of grease proof paper to set. cocktails Try creating some fruity cocktails. Create your own or use the recepies available the back of this pack.
