March, 2015 Digging Out This is the month when Spring arrives! So much is happening here at Stein our chorus is singing here and at Turtle Bay Music School, our dance class will perform in Queens, our nurses are planning several events, Shakespeare and Bob Smith are in good shape, Feldenkrais will return in April. Our nurses are busy helping all of us. We have been informed that Senior Planet will offer another series of computer classes. Dan Garodnick has made this possible. The teacher, Michael will return and if there is enough interest, we will have two sessions per week one beginners and one intermediate. Start dates are to be announced. The Dept. for the Aging has developed the game, AGE-TASTIC which educates us about physical and emotional health in an enjoyable way. We had our first session this past week and we will have two more sessions March 5 th and 26 th at 10 am. Cornell Weill is sponsoring a program here at Stein that offers shortterm, free therapy for people who have been impacted by Sandy (the storm). They are also going to present some arts and crafts and dance groups for our members during the week. We re pleased to have a group of gifted clinicians here to work with us. Our play-reading group has grown in size and we are working to continue this program led by John Windsor-Cunningham. The next classes are March 4 th and March 18 th, and A Streetcar Named Desire is the next play. The new Dance program led by Shireen on Thursday afternoons has started with a great energy and lots of dedicated dancers! When Shireen starts the session, no one can sit still. This program is a collaboration between SPARC and the Dept. for the Aging. Frigid weather has delayed the Book Club from getting off the ground, but we look forward to trying again. The book is The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark with a wonderful leader from Epiphany Library named Chastity Moreno. Books are available in Susan s office, so please support this great program. We are excited to have Renee Manning and her band back on Tues. February 24 th in celebration of Black History Month. Her singing and the wonderful music heals all our ills. In March, we are welcoming Peter Rushevsky and his combo to play Klezmer music for Stein, date TBA. Don t miss either of these great events. Stay warm, Jane Barry
