With prices of nearly everything going up these days, it's hard to believe, but. YOUR SUPERMARKET IS YOUR BUDGET'S BEST FRIEND! According to U.S. Government figures, a typical "market basket" of food actually cost less this year than it did ten years ago. (The market basket includes most meats, butter, eggs, most staples, bread and many canned foods.) This year the "market basket" cost $9.80. The average price of the same products during 1952 was $10.16. What's more, stable food prices combined with rising consumer incomes mean that the average American homemaker today spends a smaller share of her family's income for food (under 20%) than her counterpart in any country at any time in history! What does this mean? It means that you and your family have all that extra money left over after you buy your food-every family's first essential-to help you live the kind oflife you want to live. No doubt about it: FOOD IS A BARGAIN! 19
