This bubbly has brilliant flavors and effervescence. Aromas of apple and peach along with the flowery scent of rose and acacia blossoms keep you coming back for more. Excellent as an aperitivo! Olim Bauda Gavi del Comune di Gavi 2017 $16.95 Piemonte: 100% Cortese This 4th generation family owned winery from the Nizza Monferrato area in the Piedmont is now run by the three children of the Bertolino family: Gianni, Diana & Dino. This 100% Cortese wine is produced from the family s small vineyard near the San Martino farmhouse in the village of Gavi. The wine has delicate floral notes on the nose and beautiful white peach flavors in the mouth. Why drink Pinot Grigio when you can have Gavi?
Le Battistelle Soave Classico Battistelle 2016 $15.95 Veneto: 100% Garganega Gelmino and Cristina Dal Bosco started Le Battistelle in 2002 with the 9 hectares of hillside vineyards from Gelmino s family that site high above the village of Monforte. Previously the grapes had always been sold to the local cooperative in Monforte d Alpone. The largest and most contiguous vineyard in the family holdings is the Battistelle vineyard. This site produces Soave Classico that has precision fruit and a clear minerality from the soil it is grown in. A great match to local seafood, poultry dishes and lighter pastas! Trerose Rosso di Montepulciano Salterio 2015 $11.95 Toscana: 90% Sangiovese (Prugnolo), 10% Cab/Merlot Trerose Rosso is composed mostly of the local Sangiovese clone called Prugnolo Gentile. Being the second wine of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, it has a soft approachable style that is easy to understand and appreciate. The nose is rich and pleasant and leads to the core of sweet cherry fruit on the palate that matches well with pizza, cured meats and soft cheeses. A great everyday sipper!
Mocali Rosso di Montalcino 2015 $18.95 Tuscany: 100% Sangiovese. Based in the hills of the Tavernelle district of Montalcino, Mocali is a small, family-owned Brunello producer known for its lush, mineral-rich wines that are both approachable and age-worthy. Mocali is owned and managed by Tiziano and Alessandra Ciacci. The Ciacci family makes this deeply colored Rosso with an intense nose and fragrant aromas of small, fresh red fruits. On the palate it is delicately dry with aromatic, long-lasting flavors. A great match to hearty pasta dishes! Fonterutoli Chianti Classico 2015 $25.95 Toscana: 90% Sangiovese, 2% Malvasia Nera, 3% Colorino, 5% Merlot The Mazzei family has been the owners and proprietors of the Castello di Fonterutoli estate since 1435. Today, 24 th generation owner Francesco Mazzei is the head of this family run company. The Chianti Classico is produced with traditional grapes and a small amount of Merlot. The wine is aged in small French oak barriques that are both new and used. On the palate the wine is complex and elegant with flavors of ripe red fruits and good acid balance. A great match to roasted or grilled meats!
Il Molino di Grace Chianti Classico Riserva 2015 $29.95 Toscana: 100% Sangiovese At Il Molino di Grace, the riserva bottling is a selection of some of its best lots that are aged an additional 12 months in a combination of botti, French barriques and tonneaux. The wine is rich and more concentrated than the regular bottling and has a propensity to age out nicely over 7 to 10 years. A wine that begs to be paired with a juicy grilled steak! Caprili Brunello di Montalcino 2013 $45.95 Toscana: 100% Sangiovese The Bartolommei family have been long time friends of Riccardo and Georgette s since the late 80 s. 2013 vintage is just being released now and is a cooler more classic year with a very good vintage rating of 4 out of 5 stars by the Brunello Consorzio. The 2013 vintage will certainly have good longevity as well as near term drinkability. The classic Caprili flavors are all there including leather, spice and burnt orange peel along with the essence of ripe stone fruit. Always a great match to Riccardo s heartier fare and of course the Bistecca alla Fiorintina!
