THE ORCHARD OF ORIGIN

PHYTOSANITARY ISLAND Chile has the most transparent skies on Earth and possesses some of the world's most significant freshwater reserves. Natural barriers at all four compass points protect Chile, converting it into a phytosanitary island, thereby reducing the incidence of pests and diseases. As it is such a long country, Chile has an unusually varied range of climates. One that particularly stands out is the Mediterranean climate, which has enabled Chile to become a major food producer. This climate is especially advantageous for obtaining good quality raw materials and staggered production, which is counter-seasonal to the Northern Hemisphere. Ten thousand years B.C., the Amerindian peoples lived in small communities. They cultivated the land and sailed the seas, always taking care to preserve the pristine cycles of nature. They were careful to tread lightly and do no harm to the woods and plains across the land. Chile was the Garden of Origin, the least populated land of South America, until the arrival of the Spaniards in the 16 th century.

ATTRIBUTES OF CHILEAN FOOD INNOCUITY: Natural phytosanitary barriers, which isolate Chilean foods, keeping them free from pests and diseases. In Chile, we do not have foot and mouth disease, fruit flies, phylloxera or other diseases. QUALITY: The result of our combination of geography, climate, experience and professionalism. Taken together, these characteristics enable Chile to produce food which is world-renowned for its quality. INTERNATIONAL GUARANTEE: Valuation and recognition in global markets. Our attributes and long track record in international trade enable us to provide guarantees for our products, which are valued by consumers on every continent. TRACEABILITY: Complete monitoring of the productive process in accordance with strict quality control standards means we can offer certified products. NATURAL FLAVOUR: Purity and freshness from the place of origin. Thanks to our climate - very warm summers and cold winters - and geography - our mineral-rich soils, among other factors - our products are a source of life. IDENTITY The character of Chile s people has been moulded by the country s remote position in the far south of the world. Any Chilean would say that the power of nature has influenced the local temperament: far from the centre of world events but attentive to global developments, connected and receptive, yet deeply rooted in the land and origin.

WORLD CLASS EXPORTERS CHILE'S FOOD PRODUCTS PLAY A LEADING ROLE IN INTERNATIONAL MARKETS: THE WORLD'S BIGGEST EXPORTER Fresh blueberries Fresh grapes Fresh cherries Prunes Dehydrated apples Frozen whole salmon Mussels THE WORLD'S SECOND BIGGEST EXPORTER Shelled walnuts Fresh plums Fresh salmon fillet Unshelled hazelnuts THE WORLD'S THIRD BIGGEST EXPORTER Raisins Frozen raspberries Grape juice Inulin CHARACTERISTICS OF CHILE - Total surface area: 2,006,096 square kilometres - Latitudinal range: from 17 30 S to 56 30 S of America - Maximum width: 445 km (Magallanes Region and Chilean Antarctic) - Minimum width: 90 km (Coquimbo Region) - Population: 18,006,407 inhabitants (projected to 2015) - Capital: Santiago - Official language: Spanish - Indigenous languages: Mapudungun, Aimara, Rapanui and Quechua.

FOODS FROM CHILE Ranging from desert in the north to glaciers in the far south, Chile's natural diversity is unrivalled. Its unusually varied range of climates provide unique attributes and conditions, making Chile an important player in the global food industry.
