Abbey is new to our school and has been instrumental in assisting two students who joined our school from El Salvador. She stepped up to volunteer when we needed someone who could speak their language and then assist them with learning English as well! Cheryl has been a long time volunteer at Westside and she has coordinated the Breakfast With Books event each year and she has been the person who took care of all the Box Top For Education for years. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! And thank you to all of our volunteers. The Westsider...What You Need to Know From our PTO Come Join Us! It s election time for Westside PTO. Offices include president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. Terms are for one year. Here's a brief idea of what you'd be getting into: President: preside over the monthly PTO meetings, serve as primary point of contact for the principal, represent the PTO at meetings outside of the organization, and coordinate work of the PTO. Vice President: Assist the president and carry out the president's duties in his or her absence, advertise PTO's events, and submit PTO news to include in the Westsider. Secretary: Keep records of the PTO, record and distribute minutes of PTO meetings, and send notices of meetings. Treasurer: Manage the finances, collect revenue, pay expenses, and report monthly financial activity and budget at monthly meetings. Dedicated teachers, staff, and PARENTS help make Westside Elementary a great school! Join us it s rewarding, it s important, it s even fun! th Elections will be held at the next PTO meeting on Monday, May 14 at 6:00 p.m. in the Library Media Center. Please send nominations to westside.pto@rfsd.k12.wi.us by May 2nd. Spring Concerts The Spring Concerts will be held on Thursday, May 10th. The concert times are below: 1st and 5th Grade 10:00-10:35 2nd and 4th Grade 1:15-1:50 K and 3rd Grade 2:30-3:05 Wisconsin Forward Exam Wisconsin Students in Grades 3 5 will be participating in the WI Forward assessment during the March 19 May 4, 2018 testing window. The Westside Forward Exam schedule is listed below: Grade 5 (ELA and Math): March 19-April 6 (the week before AND after Spring Break) Grade 4 (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies): April 9-20 Grade 3 (ELA and Math): April 23-May 4

From Mrs. White Mrs. White will be hanging artwork for the Spring Concert the night of May 9th from 3:45pm until it is all hung up (approx. 5:00pm). She is looking for volunteers to help hang the artwork. The more help, the quicker it will go - Many Hands make Light work!. If you are available, please sign up via the following link: http://signup.com/go/tpfmvhl All School Stepping Stone Event -May 15 Mrs. White is coordinating an all school stepping stone event in which each student will be making a stepping stone. The morning session will include students in 1st, 2nd and 5th grades. The afternoon session will include students in Kindergarten, 3rd and 4th grades. May Day! May Day! Please help me with this child! Are you a working parent? Do you have a preschool age child that you are struggling with in terms of child guidance? Do you feel stressed when you get home from work and are not sure how to be with your young child? Do you feel like your time together is filled with yelling, repeating yourself and frustration? This workshop is for the working parent whose time is limited in the mornings and weeknights. Learn with other parents how to create smooth transitions in the time you have with your child and create positive interactions through positive communication skills it s all in what you say that can make or break a situation! Please join me for a two hour session on how to guide your child by using positive child guidance, develop management strategies when leaving daycare, meal and bedtime routines, and develop an understanding as to how to express strong emotions in a positive way. Who: working parents with preschool (3-8 years) aged children. When: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 1 (May Day!)
