Each grade is scheduled for a week. During your child s week, we would appreciate them getting extra sleep and a great breakfast! We would also appreciate you avoiding any trips or out of school appointments. If your child is anxious about taking the test, please let them know this test does not affect their grades. This test lets us know where students are doing well with the material and what acadmic areas we need to improve on. Thanks you so much for your support! There will be no Kindergarten screening; however, if you feel there is a need for a screening for your child, there is a pre-school (DIAL) screening available each month. Please contact Tina at the District Service Center (725-7146) to set up an appointment. DIAL screening is available only until March. Box Top Winners for February Hayden Tollefson and Kaleb Ringgenberg Congratulations! Please do not come into the North Parking lot This is a staff parking lot and along with teachers, our students and Simmons Middle School kids walk through this lot. Every year we have close calls with staff and students almost being hit. Please choose safety over convenience and drop your students off in front of the school or on the South end by the playground. We appreciate you making the safety of our students and staff a priority! There is a new face in the art room this month! Mrs. Serfling, a student from NSU, will be student teaching alongside Ms. Foster from February 6 th through March 15 th.

Sports Physicals Students in 5th grade who plan to participate in the school sponsored Cross Country, Gymnastics, Wrestling, Tennis, and/or Golf program during the 2017-2018 school year are required to have an athletic physical prior to participation. SPORTS PHYSICALS will be held ONE NIGHT ONLY at Central High School on Monday, May 8, 2017 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Letters will be sent out providing more information mid-april to all 5th grade students. Elementary School Chorus in Pierre February 24 th 2017 Knight for a Princess Event The Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation is excited to announce the fifth annual Knight for a Princess event to be held April 8, 2017 at Aberdeen Central High School from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. This special event is for girls ages 4-12 to experience a fantastic evening including appetizers, cupcakes, princess activities, a photo moment, plus an evening of memorable dancing! Knights may be dads, uncles, grandpas, or other very special male adults. Attire for the evening can be as fancy as Knights and Princesses want it to be. Tickets for the event are $30 per couple or $45 per triple (knight escorting two princesses) through April 1. After April 1 ticket prices will increase to $40/couple and $60/triple. Tickets are available at Ken s, Kessler s, or the Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation office. Tickets may also be purchased online at https://aberdeen.k12.sd.us/foundation.

All 5th grade students are invited to our Spring Instrument Try-out Day. This is a "come and go" for students who are signed up for band in middle school. The event runs from 4-7 pm. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. Simmons students will try-out in the Simmons Middle School Gym on Tuesday, April 25th. Holgate students will try-out in the Holgate Gym on Tuesday, May 2nd. The instrument your child plays in band next year will be based on this event, so all students who are signed up for band next year need to attend. If your child would like to be in band next year, but didn't register for it, he/she may do so at this event. If you have questions, please contact Jim Panerio, Simmons (725-7937) or Sara Weischedel, Holgate (725-7745). 6 th Grade Vaccination Requirements One dose of Tetanus, theria, Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine and one dose of Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine are REQUIRED for 6 th grade entry. These shots should be given on or after the 11 th birthday. If your child is 10 years old when entering 6 th grade they have 45 days after their 11 th birthday to receive the vaccinations. These requirements are specified in South Dakota Codified Law 13-28-7.1. Please visit with your physician or Brown County Community Health Center (626-2649) to see if your child needs these vaccinations. The Aberdeen School District Health Office asks that all parents of 6 th grade students turn in the updated immunization record to the school one week prior to the first day of school.
