Ever wonder why it s called Christmas? The word CHRISTMAS comes from the words Christ s Mass. It was referred to as Cristesmæsse which literally means Christian Mass. A Pinoy version of Secret Santa is called Monito Monita. Usually done in Christmas parties in schools and offices, it is an exchange of gifts where the giver is kept anonymous. DID YOU KNOW? TRIVIA It was in 1882 when Christmas lights were first invented by Edward Johnson. www.y101fm.com A Philippine tradition practiced since the early times is Noche Buena, which is a dinner held after the midnight mass. The usual viands served are ham, a pasta or a noodle dish and the tasty queso de bola. Marking the end of the Christmas season is the Feast of the Three Kings held every 6th of January. It is a religious event celebrated with a mass. Now on its 8th year, the Ayala Triangle Gardens Light Show is choreographed by director Voltaire de Jesus and Luther Gumia and uses 1.6 million LED lights. Thousands flock yearly to take photos and take in the amazing choreography of Christmas lights. The song White Christmas sung by Bill Crosby is the best-selling Christmas song that sold more than 50 million copies around the world.

WE ALL LOVE TO EAT 1. Leche Flan The Queen of Philippine Desserts. Leche Flan, also known as Creme Caramel or Custard Cake, is served all year round; more so on occasions like fiestas, birthdays and other special gatherings. It is made up of egg yolk and milk with sweet, delectable caramel coating on top. Originally a French and Spanish recipe, Leche Flan became a top choice in any Pinoy celebration. 2. Buko Pandan Salad Who doesn t love this? Green gelatin cubes with strips of soft, young coconut in a pandan-infused milky cream, best eaten when chilled Buko Pandan Salad is one prepared dessert effortlessly consumed in any Filipino banquet. 3. Minatamis na Garbanzos / Sweet Chickpeas For those who grew up in Tagalog provinces, minatamis na garbanzos is always a treat after a hearty lunch or dinner. Some eat this dessert with suman (sticky rice roll) or ripe mangoes. Either way, sweet chickpeas is a classic! 4. Bukayo 5. Yema 6. Minatamis na Saging/ Sweetened Saba Bananas One of the country s original desserts is bukayo. Made from coconuts and cooked in white or brown sugar, formed into a flat circle and left to cool and harden to a soft, chewy consistency. It is said that this very sweet Filipino nibble originated in the province of Lingayen, Pangasinan and can be found in other Philippine provinces as well. A Spanish word that means yolk, yema is a custard candy we inherited from the country s colonizers. One of the most common and easiest desserts to make, it is made of egg yolks and condensed milk and usually placed inside colored cellophane and shaped into a pyramid-like candy. A favorite homemade dish, minatamis na saging is a straightforward panghimagas made of only 3 ingredients saba, brown sugar and water. The saba banana and the sweet syrup called arnibal is a perfect combination that completes this simple fare.

R e l a x a t i o n Health & Wellness Stay fit & healthy even during your holidays. There are local and international fitness gyms you can visit to sweat out your body s toxins. You may also try out different classes like yoga, cycling, dancing or even mixed martial arts. If you re not into sports or working out, you can always head to the spa and get a relaxing massage for your tired feet and body.

Xiamen-style What is Foot Reflexology? It begins with the soaking of the feet in a bucket of warm water infused with herbs. The heated feet then cause the body to warm up therefore conditioning it for the whole process. A heated pad is also placed on your back or shoulders for added warmth. Afterwards, the feet will be dried and readied for the full foot reflexology treatment. Meant to stimulate different reflex points on one s feet and legs, with the use of thumbs, knuckles, and fingers to apply pressure, Foot Zone therapists undergo rigorous training under reflexology masters from Xiamen, China to be able to perform this correctly. They are in charge of screening, training and quality control of Foot Zone s local therapists. Aside from easing pain and pressure in the feet and legs, treatments also include massages for the head, arm and back. The benefit of Xiamenstyle foot reflexology is that when pressure is applied to specific points of the feet, it also corresponds to different internal organs, thus stimulation happens. When stimulated, blood circulation is vastly improved. This affects body organs like the kidney, heart, stomach, liver, brainstem, and colon. Improved blood circulation to these organs mean improved body performance and the release of toxins in the body. In addition to its well-loved Xiamen-style foot reflexology, Foot Zone Makati also offers a variety of other wellness treats like body massage (Swedish or Shiatsu), foot scrub with foot massage (local and Chinese style), stone massage, ear candling with head massage, and ventosa. Your path to wellness and natural healing begins here. Book your wellness session now at Foot Zone Makati. +63 (02) 542-7709
