PARTICIPATION IN ECOTROPHELIA Every year since 2011, within the practical training course and the coordination of the Food Business Management and Innovation research unit, groups of undergraduate students with a faculty member, and the collaboration of a Greek food company work on a year basis on the development of an innovative, new food product. With the product in hands each group participates in the European students competition Ecotrophelia implemented in Greece by the Federation of Hellenic Food Industries (SEVT). The competition started in Greece in 2011, and even since every year one of the participating products is awarded by one of the offered awards. More about the competition at: www.ecotrophelia.eu. Up to 2017, 21 such Greek products have been developed by the 21 different groups of students, and 7 of them have been awarded with either the second or the third price (2011 2014), the best presentation award (2015) or the best marketing plan honorary award recently (2016 2017). The products, and the awards received these years are as follows: ECOTROPHELIA 2011: Name of the product: Sweet variation Specifications: traditional Greek cake pie named chalvas, enriched with selenium, with low sugar content and sweetening indicator in order to be suitable for diabetics. Name of the product: aresi Specifications: a nutela style chocolate crème, with stevia, non-lactoze milk in a squeeze type packaging Collaborating food company: PAVLIDIS S.A. (Mondelez Hellas) 3. Name of the product: romvus Specifications: organic, soft drink, as dietary supplement containing fir honey, vanilla, orange juice and concentrated herbal extracts entrapped within beta-cyclodextrins. Name of the product: tartique Specifications: tart with tangerine and cocoa flavor, without any trace of gluten, lactose or salt offered as an alternative sweet snack for diabetics, due to it s low glycemic index (G.I.) and highfibre. Name of the product: spinberries Specifications: ready to eat ecological cereal snack with biological petimezi, oat, super foods (blueberries and cranberries) and organic herbal extract (equisetum, mint) Collaborating food company: STERGIOU S.A. 3. Name of the product: prickle8 Specifications: prickly pear cool cream with prickly pear juice, prickly pear flour, Greek vanilla fir honey, cinnamon. Kalousi (Ecotrophelia 2015) Some of the above food products have been produced in the Greek market by the companies involved whereas one of them, slightly different, is introduced in the U.S.A. market under a different brand name (name of the product tapaz to go by the Meditteraneo company).
