For me, The Wine Society can do no wrong... Jane MacQuitty, The Times, 2008 Wine Without Fuss is our chance to snap up tempting little wine parcels too limited in stock for the main List and to combine them with listed wines for a reassuring mix of the familiar and the intriguing. Everyday Selection: Red/White/Mixed* 75 per case Each case includes a good mix of easy drinking styles and grape varieties from the Old World and the New. Wines are chosen to match the seasons, favouring full-flavoured winter warmers in the colder months and lighter, more refreshing styles in the summer. There will always be a number of traditional favourites as well as wines you may not have tried before. Detailed case notes provide background information on the wines and winemakers, and Wine & Dine suggestions feature the ideal seasonal dishes to enjoy alongside the wines. Society Buyer Jo Locke MW What could be better, after a long day, than to come home to a delivery of wine selected for you, with the minimum of fuss, by The Society s buyers? It might be all red, all white or a mixture of both. It could be for everyday drinking, or something a little more special. All you have to do is sign up for the scheme, select your option, and leave the rest to us. For more than 15 years Wine Without Fuss has provided a simple, convenient way for members to enjoy regular wine supplies every month, once a year or something in between. The cases come in three levels: Everyday, Premium and Claret & French Dry White, and members can select red, white or mixed options. You need not be committed to every selection, because Wine Without Fuss is completely flexible. The buyers work hard to ensure that each case represents variety, quality and value. The cases contain a mix of Old and New World, non-listed and listed wines, on which we offer a modest discount, and come with wine notes, topical stories and food-matching recommendations from resident SocietyNews columnist Janet Wynne Evans. Subscribers tell us that for them Fuss is not only an efficient way to keep the racks stocked, but also to broaden their drinking habits. Why not join the growing band of members who let their Society take the strain, and are regularly glad they do? Wine Without Fuss offers: Complete flexibility and no commitment or obligation, it is simple to skip a month if a case is not needed Wines individually selected by buyers and some exclusively for Wine Without Fuss Three levels, each with mixed, red or white case options The opportunity to explore and find new favourite wines Free UK delivery Join online: www.thewinesociety.com/winewithoutfuss or call: 01438 740222
Premium Selection: Red/White/Mixed* 99 per case The buyers choose a diverse selection of top-quality wines from some of the world s finest vineyards for the Premium Selection. The cases mix well-known and much-loved member favourites with exciting new discoveries which the buyers have unearthed on their travels. The Society has long, fruitful associations with some of the world s best winemakers, and, because of this, can often include exclusive small parcels of wine in Wine Without Fuss that are too limited in quantity for the main List. Claret & French Dry White: Red/White/Mixed* 149 per case Chief wine buyer Sebastian Payne MW selects the best red Bordeaux for drinking now for the Claret selection. Wines include favourite Médocs and Saint-Emilions as well as rising stars from the ever improving satellite Bordeaux appellations. Claret is best enjoyed with food, and we include recipes and advice about some delicious dishes to drink with the wines. The French Dry White selection features classic whites from Burgundy, the Loire, Bordeaux, Alsace, Rhône and the Languedoc. Members can of course also select a mixed dozen of Claret and French dry whites. *All cases include two bottles each of six different wines All cases are delivered to your door, free of charge see back page for What s included?
What s included? With every delivery, you will receive detailed case notes to accompany each wine. An edited version of some of the notes sent with previous cases are shown below: Wine and Dine D Arenberg White Ochre, 2007 Cook up something winemaker Chester Osborn might serve with a flourish some large prawns, perhaps, tossed in hot oil with garlic and lemon-grass and finished with some bubbling coconut cream. Navajas Crianza, Rioja, 2005 Smooth and oaky crianza from the superb 2005 vintage. Combining ripe, sweet fruit with vanillin-scented oak from the maturation in barrels. Serve with lamb shanks, cooked until the meat falls off the bone. Primitivo di Puglia San Marzano, 2007 Effortless, lip-smacking reds continue to flow from the heel of Italy. Try this one with a spicy, thin-crust pizza, laden with chilli and tomato sauce, pepperoni sausage and roast red peppers. ECONOMY CUTS...Affordable wine is never out of fashion, but cheap cuts of meat have never been trendier. Lamb shanks and belly of pork are already gastropub darlings, less so breast of mutton, an unprepossessing sheet of gristle which two or three hours of effortless cooking turns into an unctuous treat for four for not much more than a fiver. We included two recipes, for smoked mackerel and horseradish pâté and soukh-stuffed breast of mutton, in this case for a smart stay-at-home supper to enjoy with two of the wines.
