At first, decommissioned railroad cars and trolleys were used because they were easy to transport. In time, manufacturers built prefabricated buildings with the look of a dining car. A Historic Diner The Main Street Diner is a late 1950 s Master Diner. It was built in New Jersey, brought to Hempstead, Long Island, New York, and then shipped into town. This classic diner was then laid on a foundation with a brick façade along its front, and stainless steel gleaming from all around. Later, a back room was attached to the diner, which was used as a storage room. In 2008, the diner was renovated, and this back room became the kitchen where all the authentic American cooking is done today. The Main Street Diner kept many of its original features, such as the beautiful terrazzo flooring, railroad car lighting and gleaming stainless steel inside and out. We have provided a comfortable setting for everyone who comes into the Diner. Every individual is treated like family. Extremely fast, friendly, courteous staff, and great food, as always.
