Welcome Welcome to the Neighborhood Shenandoah County is a county located in the Commonwealth of state of Virginia. The county seat is Woodstock and the county is part of the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. Shenandoah County was established in 1772 and was originally named Dunmore County after the Virginia Governor John Murray, 4th Earl of Dunmore. During that time, Woodstock was the county seat. Dunmore was Virginia's last royal governor, and was forced from office during the American Revolution. During the war, the county was renamed as Shenandoah. The Shenandoah Valley is a beautiful geographic valley and cultural region of western Virginia and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. The valley is bounded to the east by the Blue Ridge Mountains and to the west by the eastern front of the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians. To the north is the Potomac River and to the south the James River. The cultural region covers a larger area that includes all of the valley plus the Virginia highlands to the west, and the Roanoke Valley to the south. It is physiographically located within the Ridge and Valley province and is a portion of the Great Appalachian Valley. Transportation in the Shenandoah Valley area consists mainly of road and rail and contains several metropolitan area transit authorities. The Shenandoah Valley Commuter Bus Service offers weekday commuter bus service from Northern Shenandoah Valle,y including Shenandoah County, to Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. CSX Transportation operates several rail lines through the valley as well. Shenandoah County and the Shenandoah Valley area combines beautiful scenery, natural caverns and historic sites, along with music, arts, festivals, fine dining and shopping. Reduce Ṙeuse. Recycle. Americans throw away 25,000,000 plastic bottles every hour Over 75% of waste is recyclable, but we only recycle about 30% of it. The average person generates over 4 pounds of trash every day and about 1.5 tons of solid waste per year. Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to listen to a full album on your ipod. Recycling 100 cans could light your bedroom for two whole weeks. 32 33
