1 Jim's Grill Jim Bridger Born March 17th 1804 Welcome to Jim s Grill, named for the legendary mountain man, Jim Bridger. At a mere 18 years of age in 1822 St. Louis, Missouri, young Jim joined the Upper Missouri Expedition and headed into the Rocky mountain west to begin his career as an explorer, trapper, trader and guide. By 1824 Bridger was among the first white men to see the geysers and natural wonders of Yellowstone, and Jim Bridger himself was the first white man to discover the Great Salt Lake while exploring out of a camp in what is now Cove, Cache Valley. He went on to become the chief guide for explorations of Yellowstone, Jackson Hole and the Teton Range. By 1842 he established Fort Bridger along the Green River in Wyoming, which was a vital resupply point for the Oregon Trail, the California Trail and the Mormon Trail. Fluent in Spanish, French and multiple Native American languages, Bridger was a key figure in the lives of early pioneers and natives alike. In the 1850 s Bridger s exploration led to the establishment of Bridger Pass, which shortened the Oregon Trail by over 60 miles, and became the current path of modern Interstate 80. We are proud to have named our restaurant after Jim Bridger and strive to bring you food and service worthy of his legendary name.
