2 Community Corner I purchased my first cow when I was a teenager living on an Air Force base, and I ve been involved in the industry ever since. My parents gave me the opportunity to experience the art of working with cattle through the natural animal instinct they both possess. It has always been a pleasure to work in livestock production with others who truly understand how they think and react to various situations. After a long day of working cattle with my family, friends or fellow ranchers, nothing beats sitting down and taking the time to enjoy that fantastic roast, chili or steak meal and participate in the social aspect of our lifestyle. I ve been so lucky to be able to share this experience over the years with my children and now the grandkids, watching the younger generation as they get the opportunity to tag a calf, or give a vaccination shot for the first time and see that pride beam across their face, to watch them witness the birth of a calf, or experience the sense of accomplishment when they are able to help nurture and grow that calf. In my role as Chair of Alberta Beef Producers (ABP), I represent the interests of nearly 20,000 farmers and ranchers across this great province that raise the amazing beef we know as Alberta Beef. It is a real pleasure to be involved in this industry on so many different levels; at the ranch where I m able to work with nature and science-based knowledge to raise worldclass beef that is known for its impeccable quality, in business where I m able to use my University Degree and years of experience to develop the best nutrition programs for my client s livestock, and with the organization where we do all we can to promote Alberta Beef and our industry. We value our relationships with retail partners like the Freson Bros. that proudly support Alberta Beef.
