1 September 2015 Dear McKean Elementary Parents/Guardians: Our PTA is budgeted for $19,500 in educational supplies, activities, programs and field trips for the school year. This figures out to be approximately $60 per student. In order to raise that large amount, the PTA Fundraising Committee gives our students families a variety of options to choose from to help support our students and school. REMEMBER- YOU CHOOSE WHICH PROGRAMS YOU WANT TO SUPPORT! SOME OF OUR PROGRAMS THIS YEAR: 1. Save Around Books- Beginning of the school year 2. Pies - Fall 3. Big G Box Tops- Clip and send into the school 4. Reading for Education 5. Terracycle Juice Pouch Recycling 6. Family Fun Night- January 7. Tyson A+ Labels- found on all Tyson products- clip & send in to the school 8. GFS Foods 9. Giant Eagle Apples for Student 10. Targets Take Charge of Education 11. Campbell s Labels for Education 12. Shoparoo app 13. Amazon Smile program- smile.amazon.com (all the same products and prices; the PTA receives a donation from Amazon) 14. Great Lakes Scrip Program 15. Recycle your old toner cartridges at the school. We recycle these at Staples for supplies and paper. We do this by creating waste collection programs (each one is called a Brigade ) for previously non-recyclable, or difficult-to-recycle, waste.

How TerraCycle Works TerraCycle is on a mission to eliminate the idea of waste. We do this by creating waste collection programs (each one is called a Brigade ) for previously non-recyclable, or difficult-to-recycle, waste. The collected waste is then converted into new products, ranging from recycled park benches to upcycled backpacks. Drink Pouch Brigade accepted waste spouts Aluminum and plastic drink pouches (no need to remove the straws), Drink pouches with.collect and Send- Bring the drink pouches to the school. We collect them in the Cafeteria and Writing Center. We send the collected items to earn points with Terracycle. Points transfer into cash. Solve and Benefit -TerraCycle s team of scientists and designers have found ways to recycle and upcycle the waste we collect into cool new products. When they upcycle a piece of waste they leverage both the material it is made from and the original shape of the waste. When they recycle they transform the collected waste into new products through a variety of processes like injection molding. Best of all, when you're done with a TerraCycle product you can put it back in the original Brigade collection program and get credit for the waste a second time.

4 How Box Tops Works 1. Find Box Tops on hundreds of products. (LISTED BELOW) 2. Clip Box Tops from each package. 3. Send the Box Tops to your school. 4. Box Tops are each worth 10 for your school. 5. Our box tops Coordinator will collect all the box tops and send them in so our school can get cash. Checks are mailed to our school twice a year. 5 We re pleased to share some exciting news about a new fundraising program for our organization. It s called scrip, and it s the fundraising program that works while you shop. Scrip is simply a word that means substitute money in other words, scrip is gift certificates from national and local retailers. They re the same gift certificates that you buy at the store. Many popular retailers participate in our scrip program including JCPenney, The Gap, Shell, Pizza Hut, Red Lobster and many, many others. You re probably asking yourself how these stores help us raise money. It s simple - - scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to our organization at a discount. Member families like yours buy the certificates for full face value, they redeem them for full face value, and our school keeps the difference as revenue. And scrip is exciting, because everybody wins: The retailer gets cash up front and repeat business You get a powerful fundraising alternative that involves no selling Our school gets a regular source of revenue. The beauty of scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You earn money for our school without spending a single additional penny. Just spend your regular shopping dollars with scrip at the stores that participate in the scrip program! And scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline and even dining out. You can purchase gift cards at the McKean Elementary School Office & we usually place a large order around the holidays.
