1 Instructions for Use The NA 3 Instructions for Use has be awarded the seal of approval by the indepdt German Technical Inspection Agcy, TÜV SÜD, due to s easy-to-understand style, s thoroughness and coverage of safety aspects.

2 NA 3 IMPORTANT SAFGUARDS These safeguards apply for machines wh UL safety test (see rating plate and chapter 8, Technical data ). Follow the basic safety precautions Wh using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following: Z Read all instructions. Z Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs. Z To protect against fire, electric shock and injury to persons, do not immerse cord, plugs, or body of machine in water or other liquid. Z Close supervision is necessary wh any appliance is used by or near childr. Z Unplug from outlet wh not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance. Z Do not operate any appliance wh a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has be damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facily for examination, repair or adjustmt. Z The use of accessory attachemt not recommded by the appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock, or injury to persons. Z Do not use outdoors. Z Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter, or touch hot surfaces. Z Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated ov. Z Always attach plug to appliance first, th plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to OFF th remove plug from wall outlet. Z Do not use appliance for other than intted use. 3 NA 3 Special cord set instructions a. A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming tangled in or tripping over a long cord. Your NA has a 3-pin grounded plug. b. Longer extsion cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. c. If an extsion cord is used, 1. the marked electrical rating of the extsion cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance, and 2. if the appliance is of the grounded type, the extsion courd should be a grounding type 3-wire cord, and 3. the longer cord shall be arranged so that will not drape over the counter top or tabletop where can be pulled on by childr of tripped over. Z Z Z As a safety feature, this plug will f in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not f fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If still does not f, contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way or attempt to defeat this safety feature. Warning Caution To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not remove any service covers. No user serviceable parts inside. Repair should be done by authorized personnel only. This appliance is for household use. Any servicing other than cleaning and user rinse should be performed by an authorized service represtative: Z Do not immerse base in water or try to disassemble. It will damage the functioning of the brewing chamber. Never fill sugar coated coffee beans into the bean hopper. In case of doubt, call your dealer. Never fill anything other than coffee beans into the bean container (no chocolate, no rice, no nuts, no spices, nothing other than roasted coffee beans). Never do anything wh the machine which is not described in the User s Manual. In case of doubt, call your dealer. 4

10 NA 3 Proper use The machine has be designed and built for domestic use. It should only be used to prepare coffee and to heat milk and water. Use for any other purpose will be deemed improper. JURA lektroapparate AG cannot accept any responsibily for the consequces of improper use. Before using the machine always carefully read and comply wh all these instructions. Keep this manual close to the NA and pass on to the next user if applicable. For your safety Please read and note the following important safety information carefully. This can prevt pottially fatal injury due to electric shock: Z Never use a machine which has be damaged or which has a defective power cable. Z If there are any signs of damage, for example if there is a smell of burning, unplug the machine from the mains supply immediately and contact the JURA service ctre. Z If the power cable for this machine is damaged, must be repaired eher directly by JURA or by a JURA approved service ctre. Z Make sure that the NA and the power cable are not located close to hot surfaces. Z Be careful to sure that the power cable does not become trapped and does not rub against sharp edges. Z Never op and repair the machine yourself. Do not modify the machine in any way that is not described in the NA manual. The machine contains live parts. If oped, there is a danger of fatal injury. Repairs may only be carried out by JURA approved service ctres, using original spare parts and accessories. There is a risk of scalds and burns from the spouts or the nozzle: Z Place the machine out of the reach of childr. Z Do not touch any hot parts. Use the handles provided. Z Be careful to sure that the appropriate nozzle is correctly installed and clean. The nozzle or parts of the nozzle could become detached if the parts are not assembled correctly or a blockage occurs. A defective machine is not safe and could cause injury or fire. To avoid damage and any associated risk of injury or fire: Z Never allow the power cable to hang down loosely. The power cable can trip someone or be damaged. Z Protect your NA from vironmtal influces such as rain, frost and direct sunlight. Z Do not put the NA, cable or connections in water. Z Do not put the NA or any individual parts in the dishwasher. Z Turn your NA off and disconnect the mains plug before starting any cleaning operation. Always wipe your NA wh a damp cloth, never a wet cloth, and protect from constant water splashes. Z Only connect the machine to a power supply in accordance wh the information on the rating plate. The rating plate is located on the underside of your NA. Further technical data is giv in Chapter 8 Technical Data. Z Use only original JURA care products. Use of accessories that are not explicly recommded by JURA could damage the NA. Z Do not use any coffee beans treated wh addives or caramelised coffee beans. Z Always fill the water tank wh cold, fresh water. Z If you are abst for a prolonged period of time, turn the machine off. 10

Z The machine may only be used by persons who are able to operate the machine safely. Connector System The Connector System perms the use of four differt nozzles: Z Professional Cappuccino Frother U Cappuccino U Hot milk Safe handling of the CLARIS filter cartridges: Z Filter cartridges should be kept out of the reach of childr. Z Store filter cartridges dry in the sealed package. Z Protect filter cartridges from heat and direct sunlight. Z Do NOT use damaged filter cartridges. Z Do NOT op filter cartridges. 12 NA 3 Z Hot water nozzle T Remove the water tank and rinse wh cold water. T Fill the water tank wh cold, fresh water and replace the tank. Filling the bean container 3-colour plain text display Your NA features a 3-colour plain text display. The colours of the display texts have the following meanings: Z Gre: Your NA is ready for use. Z Red: The NA is prompting you to perform an action. Z Yellow: You are in programming mode. 1 Preparing and using for the first time This chapter provides the information you need for trouble-free use of your NA and gives you a step-by-step guide to preparing your NA for your first coffee experice. Setting up Wh setting up your NA, please note the following: Z Place the machine on a horizontal surface that cannot be damaged by water. Z Select a posion for the NA where is protected against overheating. Filling the water tank To joy perfect coffee we recommd changing the water every day. CAUTION Milk, mineral water or other liquids can damage the water tank or the machine. T Only fill the water tank wh fresh, cold water. CAUTION Coffee beans which have be treated wh addives (e.g. sugar), pre-ground or freeze-dried coffee will damage the grinder. T Only use untreated coffee beans to refill the bean container. T Remove the bean container cover. T Remove any dirt or foreign objects from the bean container. T Fill the bean container wh coffee beans. T Close the bean container. First-time use The on/off button also acts as a power swch. Wh the NA is swched off, the machine is completely disconnected from the power supply. J WARNING If the machine is operated wh a defective power cable, there is a danger of electric shock. T Never use a machine which has a defective power cable. Precondion: The water tank must be full. T Insert the mains plug into a power socket. Q T Press the on/off button to swch the machine on. SPRACH DUTSCH 12

13 NA 3 g T Turn the Rotary Swch until LANGUAG NGLISH is Using and activating filter Your NA no longer requires descaling if you use CLARIS filter cartridges. Perform the Insert filter operation whout interruptions. This will sure optimum function of your NA. After two months the filter capacy is reached. The elapsed time can be checked wh the date plate on the cartridge holder. k T Press the Rotary Swch to confirm the language setting. OK, the language is th adjusted. OPN TAP T Place a receptacle under the nozzle. SYSTM FILLING CLOS TAP y T Turn the swch to posion o. HATING PRSS ROTARY T Place a receptacle under the coffee spout. k T Press the Rotary Swch to start rinsing. RINSING RADY Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Op the cover behind the Rotary Swch. P T Press the P button until RINS appears. g T Turn the Rotary Swch until FILTR - is k T Press the Rotary Swch to ter the programme em. NO - g T Turn the Rotary Swch until YS p appears. k T Press the Rotary Swch to confirm the setting. OK INSRT FILTR T Remove and empty the water tank. T Op the cartridge holder. T Insert the new filter cartridge into the water tank, pressing slightly. Wh a coffee specialy has be prepared for the first time, is possible that FILL BANS appears on the display as the grinder has not yet be completely filled wh coffee beans. In this case prepare a differt coffee specialy. T Close the cartridge holder. It will click into place audibly. T Fill the water tank wh cold, fresh water and replace the tank. T Place a receptacle (at least 500 ml) under the nozzle. 13

14 NA 3 OPN TAP FILTR RINSING, water is discharged from the nozzle. Rinsing of the filter can be interrupted at any time. To this purpose turn the swch clockwise. The water may be slightly discoloured. This is not harmful to health and does not affect the taste. Rinsing of the filter stops automatically, CLOS TAP. y T Turn the swch to posion o. HATING RADY The filter is now activated. Determining and adjusting the water hardness The harder the water, the more frequtly the NA requires descaling. It is therefore important to adjust the water hardness. It is not possible to adjust the water hardness if the CLARIS filter cartridge is used and activated. The water hardness can be adjusted betwe 1 dh and 30 dh. It can also be deactivated, which means that the NA will not indicate wh has to be descaled. The Aquadur test strip supplied as standard can be used to determine the water hardness. T Hold the test strip briefly (for one second) under running water. T Shake off the water. T Wa for approximately 1 minute. T Read the degree of water hardness from the discolouration of the Aquadur test strip and the description on the packaging. The water hardness can th be adjusted. xample: Changing the water hardness from 16 dh to 25 dh. Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Op the cover behind the Rotary Swch. P T Press the P button until RINS appears. g T Turn the Rotary Swch until HARDNSS is k T Press the Rotary Swch to ter the programme em. 16 dh g T Turn the Rotary Swch until 25 dh is k T Press the Rotary Swch to confirm the setting. OK, the water hardness is th adjusted. HARDNSS g T Turn the Rotary Swch until XIT is k T Press the Rotary Swch to ex programming mode. RADY Adjusting grinder You can adjust the grinder continuously to su the roast of your coffee. CAUTION If you adjust the finess of grind wh the grinder is not operating, the grinding wheel could be damaged. T Only adjust the finess of grind wh the grinder is running. The finess of grind setting is correct if the coffee flows regularly from the coffee spout. A fine, thick crema is also formed. Our recommdations: Z Select a fine setting for a light roast. 14

15 NA 3 U If the finess of grind setting is too fine, the coffee only drips from the coffee spout. Swching on the machine Wh the NA is swched on, a prompt to perform a rinse operation automatically appears. Z Select a coarse setting for a darker roast. U If the finess of grind is too coarse the coffee flows too quickly from the coffee spout. Q T Press the on/off button to swch the NA on. HATING PRSS ROTARY T Place a receptacle under the coffee spout. k T Press the Rotary Swch to start rinsing. RINSING, the system is being rinsed, the operation stops automatically. RADY Swching off the machine Wh the NA is swched off, the system is automatically rinsed if a coffee specialy has be prepared. xample: Adjusting the finess of grind during coffee preparation. T Place the cup under the coffee spout. k T Press the Rotary Swch to start coffee preparation. T Turn the finess of the grinding wheel to the desired posion while the grinder is running. 1 CUP, the pre-set amount of water flows into the cup, preparation stops automatically. RADY T Place a receptacle under the coffee spout. Q T Press the on/off button. RINSING, the system is being rinsed. The operation stops automatically, the NA is swched off. The on/off button also acts as a power swch. Wh the NA is swched off, the machine is completely disconnected from the power supply. 2 Preparation 1 coffee at the touch of a button Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Place the cup under the coffee spout. k T Press the Rotary Swch to start coffee preparation. During grinding the strgth of the coffee is briefly 1 CUP, the pre-set amount of water flows into the cup, preparation stops automatically. RADY 15

16 NA 3 2 coffees at the touch of a button Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Place two cups under the coffee spout. g T Turn the Rotary Swch until 2 CUPS is k T Press the Rotary Swch to start coffee preparation. 2 CUPS, the pre-set amount of water flows into the cups, preparation stops automatically. RADY Pre-ground coffee You can also use a second coffee bld in the powder chaft for pre-ground coffee. Never add more than two level measuring spoons of pre-ground coffee. Do not use very finely-ground coffee. Very fine coffee can block up the system so that the coffee only comes out in drips. If the filled amount of pre-ground coffee was insuffic, NOT NOUGH PR- GROUND is displayed and the NA stops operation. The desired coffee specialy must be prepared whin approx. one minute after filling wh the pre-ground coffee. Otherwise the NA stops the operation and is ready to use again. xample: Preparing a cup of coffee using pre-ground coffee. Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Place the cup under the coffee spout. T Op the powder chaft. FILL PR-GROUND T Place the filler funnel for pre-ground coffee in the powder chaft. T Place one level measuring spoon of pre-ground coffee into the filler funnel. T Remove the filler funnel. T Close the powder chaft. 1 CUP k T Press the Rotary Swch to start coffee preparation. 1 CUP, the pre-set amount of water flows into the cup, preparation stops automatically. RADY It is also possible to prepare two cups of pre-ground coffee. To this purpose place two level measuring spoons of pre-ground coffee into the filler funnel. Turn the Rotary Swch to 2 CUPS and press to start coffee preparation. One-off setting before and during preparation The coffee strgth can be changed before preparation or during the grinding operation. The following coffee strgth options are possible for 1 coffee: Z Mild Z Normal Z Strong 2 coffees are always prepared wh the coffee strgth mild. 16

17 The pre-set amount of water can be changed during the brewing operation by turning the Rotary Swch. One-off settings before and during coffee preparation always follow this model. These settings are not saved. xample: Changing the coffee strgth of 1 coffee before preparation from NORMAL to STRONG. Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Place the cup under the coffee spout. g T Turn the Rotary Swch until STRONG is k T Press the Rotary Swch until STRONG is During grinding the coffee strgth STRONG is 1 CUP, the pre-set amount of water flows into the cup, preparation stops automatically. RADY NA 3 k T Press the Rotary Swch again wh ough coffee has be filled into the cup. OK, the default setting for the amount of water for one coffee has be tered. RADY This setting can be changed at any time by repeating the above procedure. Cappuccino wh the Professional Cappuccino Frother Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Remove the protective cover from the Professional Cappuccino Frother. T Connect the milk pipe to the nozzle. T Insert the other d of the milk pipe into a milk carton or connect to a milk container. T Place a cup under the nozzle. T Set the selector lever of the nozzle to the milk foam p posion. ntering a default setting for the amount of water for a cup size A default setting can be tered for the amount of water for 1 coffee. Wh preparing 2 coffees this amount is dispsed per cup. Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Place the cup under the coffee spout. k T Press the Rotary Swch and hold down. During grinding the strgth of the coffee is k T Continue to hold the Rotary Swch down until NOUGH COFF? appears. The coffee flows into the cup. g T Turn the Rotary Swch until STAM is HATING RADY appears as soon as the NA is sufficly heated. STAM, the milk foam is being prepared. y T Turn the swch clockwise to posion o wh there is suffic milk foam in the cup. You can prepare more milk foam whin about 40 seconds. 17

18 NA 3 T Place the cup under the coffee spout. k T Press the Rotary Swch to start coffee preparation. 1 CUP, the pre-set amount of water flows into the cup. Preparation stops automatically. To sure that the Professional Cappuccino Frother works perfectly, should be rinsed and cleaned regularly (refer to Chapter 4 Rinse Professional Cappuccino Frother ). Cappuccino wh the asy Cappuccino Frother Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Remove the protective cover from the asy Cappuccino Frother. T Connect the milk pipe to the nozzle. T Insert the other d of the milk pipe into a milk carton or connect to a milk container. T Place a cup under the nozzle. You can prepare more milk foam whin about 40 seconds. T Place the cup under the coffee spout. k T Press the Rotary Swch to start the coffee preparation. 1 CUP, the pre-set amount of water flows into the cup. Preparation stops automatically. To sure that the asy Cappuccino Frother works perfectly, should be rinsed and cleaned regularly (refer to Chapter 4 Rinse asy Cappuccino Frother ). Cappuccino wh the 2-stage frothing nozzle Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Push the 2-stage frothing nozzle to the lower posion. T Place a cup of milk below the 2-stage frothing nozzle and immerse the nozzle in the milk. g T Turn the Rotary Swch until STAM is HATING RADY appears as soon as the NA is sufficly heated. STAM, the milk foam is being prepared. y T Turn the swch clockwise to posion o wh there is suffic milk foam in the cup. If the nozzle does not reach into the cup, lift the cup towards the nozzle. g T Turn the Rotary Swch until STAM is HATING RADY appears as soon as the NA is sufficly heated. STAM, the milk is foamed by the hot steam. 18

19 y T Turn the swch to posion o wh the milk foam has reached the required consistcy. You can prepare more steam whin about 40 seconds. T Place the cup under the coffee spout. k T Press the Rotary Swch to start coffee preparation. 1 CUP, the pre-set amount of water flows into the cup. Preparation stops automatically. To sure that the 2-stage frothing nozzle works perfectly, should be rinsed regularly (refer to Chapter 4 Rinse Dismantling and rinsing the 2-stage frothing nozzle ). Heating milk wh the Professional Cappuccino Frother Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Remove the protective cover from the Professional Cappuccino Frother. T Connect the milk pipe to the nozzle. T Insert the other d of the milk pipe into a milk carton or connect to a milk container. T Place a cup under the nozzle. T Set the selector lever of the nozzle to the milk t posion. NA 3 HATING RADY appears as soon as the NA is sufficly heated. STAM, the hot milk is being prepared. y T Turn the swch clockwise to posion o wh there is suffic milk in the cup. You can prepare more hot milk whin about 40 seconds. To sure that the Professional Cappuccino Frother works perfectly, should be rinsed and cleaned regularly (refer to Chapter 4 Rinse Professional Cappuccino Frother ). Heating milk wh the 2-stage frothing nozzle Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Push the 2-stage frothing nozzle to the top posion. T Place a cup of milk below the 2-stage frothing nozzle and immerse the nozzle in the milk. If the nozzle does not reach into the cup, lift the cup towards the nozzle. g T Turn the Rotary Swch until STAM is g T Turn the Rotary Swch until STAM is HATING RADY appears as soon as the NA is sufficly heated. 19

20 NA 3 STAM, the milk is heated by the hot steam. y T Turn the swch to posion o as soon as the required temperature is reached. Hot water You can prepare more steam whin about 40 seconds. To sure that the 2-stage frothing nozzle works perfectly, should be rinsed regularly (refer to Chapter 4 Rinse Dismantling and rinsing the 2-stage frothing nozzle ). To prepare hot water, attach eher the hot water nozzle or the 2-stage frothing nozzle to the Connector System. J CAUTION There is a danger of scalding from hot water splashes. T Avoid direct contact wh the skin. Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. T Place a cup under the nozzle. WATR, hot water flows into the cup. y T Turn the swch clockwise wh there is suffic water in the cup. RADY 3 Default settings in programming mode Products The following settings can be programmed for 1 coffee: Z Amount of water: 25 ML 240 ML Z Coffee strgth: MILD, NORMAL, STRONG Z Temperature: NORMAL, HIGH The following applies wh preparing 2 coffees: Z The amount of water set for 1 coffee is dispsed per cup wh 2 cups are prepared. Z 2 coffees are always prepared wh the coffee strgth mild. Z 2 coffees are prepared at the same temperature which is set for 1 coffee. Default settings in programming mode always follow the same model. xample: Changing the default setting for the strgth of one coffee from NORMAL to STRONG. Precondion: RADY is shown on the display. 23 NA 3 Changing the filter following a prompt After 50 lres of water have flowed through the filter, s capacy is reached. The NA automatically prompts you to replace the filter. After two months the filter capacy is reached. The elapsed time can be checked wh the date plate on the cartridge holder. If the CLARIS filter cartridge is not activated, you will not be prompted to change the filter. Precondion: RADY / FILTR is T Op the cover behind the Rotary Swch. c T Press the rinse button. INSRT FILTR T Remove and empty the water tank. T Op the cartridge holder and remove the old filter cartridge. T Insert the filter cartridge into the water tank, exerting slight pressure. T Close the cartridge holder. It will click into place audibly. T Fill the water tank wh cold, fresh water and replace the tank. T Place a receptacle (at least 500 ml) under the nozzle. OPN TAP FILTR RINSING, water is discharged from the nozzle. Rinsing of the filter can be interrupted at any time. To this purpose turn the swch clockwise. The water may be slightly discoloured. T Rinse the descaling agt off wh clean water. Should you get any descaling agt in your eye, consult a doctor. CAUTION Risk of damage to the machine and residues in the water if the wrong descaling agt is used. T Only use original JURA care products. Dismantling and rinsing the 2-stage frothing nozzle To sure that the 2-stage frothing nozzle functions correctly, clean regularly if you have heated or frothed milk. J CAUTION Danger of burns from the hot nozzle and nozzle connector. T Wa until the nozzle has cooled before cleaning. T Carefully remove the nozzle from the Connector System. T Unscrew the nozzle using the hole on the measuring spoon for pre-ground coffee. 28

29 NA 3 T Rinse all three nozzle parts thoroughly under running water. T Reassemble the nozzle and attach to the Connector System. Cleaning the bean container Coffee beans may be covered wh a slight oil film which remains on the walls of the bean container. These residues may negatively affect the coffee results. For this reason clean the bean container from time to time. Q T Press the on/off button to swch the machine off. T Disconnect the mains plug. T Remove the bean container cover. T Remove the coffee beans wh a vacuum cleaner. T Clean the bean container wh a soft, dry cloth. T Fill the bean container wh fresh coffee beans, th close the bean container cover. Descaling the water tank Limescale deposs may form in the water tank. To sure correct function of the machine, descale the water tank from time to time. T Remove the water tank. T If a CLARIS filter cartridge is used, remove the cartridge. T Descale the tank wh a mild, commercially available descaling agt in accordance wh the instructions of the manufacturer. T Rinse the water tank thoroughly. T If a CLARIS filter cartridge is used, replace the cartridge. T Fill the water tank wh cold, fresh water and replace the tank. 29
