2 I. Introduction Of Taiwan s walks of life, which business could be so weighty and captivating for teenagers? The crown goes to beverages. According to the Wen Shin s New English-English English-Chinese Dictionary, beverages means a kind of drink. In recent years, high school students have been addicted to beverages, especially tea beverages. It is no surprise that more and more tea beverage chains are established to cater to a fast-changing pace of taste buds. We cannot help but wonder how tea beverages put a spell on teenagers, somewhat kidnapped by a variety of traditional or exotic types. Therefore, we decide to work on tea beverages in Taiwan. First, we introduce the culture of tea beverages and next, compare tea beverages shops with their counterparts, brands. Finally, we zoom in what teenagers think of tea beverages and try to unveil the depth of such an issue. II. Thesis 1. the history and culture of tea beverages in Taiwan When it comes to Taiwan, tea beverages just pop up. Hundreds of years ago, Taiwanese started to plant tea trees. At the same time, a foreigner came across these plants. Since then, Taiwan has introduced the culture of tea beverages to other countries. So far, Taiwan s tea beverages have been more specialized and refined. Businessmen are so smart that in a lucrative way, they focus on how to attract teenagers attention. Here comes a good example, bubble tea. The bubble floats above a layer of black tea. People want to check what is inside. It totally corresponds with a huge curiosity of the youth and becomes epidemic. In fact, the amount of foam is decisive. It loses a sense of mystery with a light bubble and turns tasteless with a thick one. Besides, the choice of tea has something to do with the desired foam or bubble. Businessmen are careful of this harmonious combination. The creation of bubble tea is mixed with milk and pearls. A world-famous tea beverage, pearl milk comes into being. The heart of their logo is thanksgiving, understanding, forgiving, comprehension and enthusiasm. Recently, they have had a special attraction. Appointed ne or two kinds of drinks for customers to get at much cheaper price in three time slots lan It was established in 1994 by Mr. Ma and his sister. Their different chain stores have different prices because different places have different living standards. The way they treat customers is good. They take a serious attitude when they are serving. They also create another kind of brand, called KOI CAFÉ. Interestingly, unlike Ching-Shin and Greenheart, 50lan little or no has sales. 2

It is cheap, aromatic and what matters is teenagers like it. Black tea generates a huge number of drinks with any possible ingredients green tea Green tea has many benefits. For example, catechins are a little bitter but good for people. It can lower blood pressure and cleanse our blood. Also, it can make our mouth smell better. Generally speaking, green tea with no sugar is worth a try oolong tea Oolong tea has camellia sinensis, different from those of its counterparts. But its structure is so complex that scientists give it a real name. At least, it can protect us from many cancers and diseases. Therefore, many scientists emphasize that people should drink more oolong tea pearl milk tea Of Taiwan s characteristics, pearl milk tea definitely has an important place. No matter where we go and when we want to have a drink, pearl milk tea is on the top of preferences. It is a combination of black tea, pearl and milk tea beverages of brands With an increase on awareness of health, tea beverages keep up with what people want. Therefore, in supermarkets or convenience stores, many shelves are occupied by piles of functional teas. Such products aim to promote digestion and block cholesterol. For example, Every Morning Healthy Green Tea of Vitalon has hit our sense by its interesting TV commercial. It looks as if we have a sip, we can stay fit always. In the tea beverage industry, Super Sugar Free Green Tea of Chen Kou Wei encourages us to build a firewall against love handles, thunderthigh, muffin-top, and 3

5 spare tyre. All we have to do is take a shortcut to fitness by a sip of their drink. To believe it or not, such functional tea beverages get people excited by the promise of weight loss the problems of tea beverages to teenagers in Taiwan Every coin has two sides. Tea beverages post two threats on teenagers. First of all, a warning of harm to health is often highlighted. If we take in tea beverages to an extreme, we may get too much sugar. Moreover, girls get cold tea beverages so often, their period becomes irregular and influence their fertility. Second, a purchase of tea beverages is connected with management of money. Iif the price is high and not affordable, their popularity may be shadowed. With a reasonable price or a big bargain, it can be famous overnight, sold out at seckill. In our opinion, tea beverages shops should think twice before they put on how much it costs on the menu. If not, they may not have a big fortune and sales just suffer from their carelessness. 3. a survey on teenagers opinion of tea beverages To figure out how teenagers feel about tea beverages of chain stores, we deliver a questionnaire to the sophomores of Applied Foreign Language Department at National Yuan-lin Vocational High School of Home Economics and Business. The following charts and explanation testify to what we find out. Form 1. a 12-question questionnaire 1. You go to a beverage shop very often. 2. The prices of the drinks can influence what beverage you want to buy. 3. You buy drinks because you it can quench thirst. 4. The wrappings of beverages can influence what beverage you want to buy. 5. If beverages shops hold a big sale, would you want to try a new one? 6. You can spend more money on your favorite but expensive drinks. 7. Do you often try a new drink with a special name? 8. You will give the special drink a try if you friends recommend. 9. The advertisements can influence you to choose new beverages? 10. You buy drinks besides you have a dinner or lunch. 11. You often buy cold drinks after you exercise or the hot weather. 12. Whenever you order, you would like beverages with full sugar. Also, the name must be credited with customers imagination. For instance, Grape Soft Drink is mixed with grape juice and sports drink and Floating Black Tea is blended with ice cream and black tea. Therefore, many teenagers may consider those who with a special name. It represents that students obviously take price into first consideration. They do not earn money on their own. When they use money, they have a second thought. Most of the teenagers accept that cold tea beverages are popular. We find that some of them do not care about price at all. They just choose what they want. We also notice that many people prefer cold tea beverages to water after a tiring exercise under the hot sun all day. Therefore, tea beverage chain stores should have a harmonious combination of 5

7 price and quality. III. Conclusion The culture of drinking tea is common the world over. For example, the British afternoon tea, Japanese tea ceremony, and Southeast Asian teh tarik ( pulled tea ) are world favorites. Taiwan s kaleidoscope of tea beverages build an empire on a big population. For teenagers, tea beverages have an important part in their life, no matter what and when they buy. They like to get a taste of the big freeze in summer and the super warmth in winter. They consider that which tea beverages are delicate and special matters. Whenever they have a cup in hand, teenagers just squeeze the last bit of a drawer and enjoy their drink in the full. Tea beverages have long seized on teenagers heart and helped businessmen make a big fortune. Therefore, they are willing to stop by tea beverage chains on a weekly or daily basis. There is no doubt that tea beverages come in different varieties and surprise our senses. On the one hand, because of the 2011 Japanese killer earthquake, people are aware of the danger of radiation and want to do some self-protection. It is reported that a cup of tea is of help against radiation. To believe it or not, some people may be so trendy to be tea beverageaholic. On the other hand, we need to be careful of tea beverage-related warnings, such as hygiene and the safety of ingredients. Since tea beverages have served as our companions, we may be prone to their underlying uncertainty. It is unfortunate to purchase tea beverages at the cost of health, so we have to monitor our drinking habits to nip health problems in the bud. It is not smart either if we are careless of lots crash for frequent trips to tea beverage chains. Eventually, tea beverages secure a vital place and their secret formulas continue having a strong connection with teenagers life. IV.
