Though each region and community may have its own unique twist on the Tet traditions, they all have one thing in common: the importance of food. The various styles, flavours, ingredients and even the presentation of colours and textures all play important symbolic roles in the ringing in of good fortune, luck, longevity and happiness for the new year to come. 3 9 AWESOME THINGS TO DO In Vietnam During The Spring 1. Decorating houses to embrace the spring. Lunar New Year is an occasion for people to spruce up their houses for a new and fresh aura. A branch of the peach tree in the north and the apricot tree in the south with blossoming flowers are especially must-haves in each house to welcome a full Tet and a fortunate year. 2. Everyone wants to look fresh and better on Tet holiday because the springtime is for changes! And red equals to fortunate in Vietnamese culture so during the spring, put on a red element in your outfit to bring luck and prosperity in the coming year. 3. Learn how to make Chung cake, the Vietnamese traditional sticky rice cake cooked in banana leaves. It is believed that Chung cakes are meaningful gifts and an indispensible offering to others during Vietnam s biggest festival of the year. It is a cultural practice to pay a visit to relatives and close friends to enjoy some candies, beverages and wish them good fortune for the New Year. Also, most of the shops and restaurants close on the first day of the New Year so make sure you will put a note of this day on your calendar. If you are entertaining, make sure you have enough food and beverage supply to host parties for a few days. 6. Watching the fireworks and feasting on Lunar New Year s Eve. New Year s Eve is the time of connection between two years, and it is celebrated with plenty of food and fireworks in many places around Vietnam. 7. Giving lucky money ( Li xi ) to younger people to wish them a Happy New Year. Lucky money is often placed in a red envelope, and when kids receive lucky money, they will say thank you and wish the giver best wishes. 8. Visiting temples and pagodas to pray for beloved ones. With the hope to find peace, remove the anxieties and worries of the old year and wish for luck and happiness in the New Year, Vietnamese usually visit pagodas on the Tet holiday. Tet, aka the Lunar New Year is a special moment as it marks the end of a year and the beginning of a new spring according to the Vietnamese Lunar Calendar. 17 TOUR AROUND SON TRA Wildlife Habitat The resort is set in a stunning location surrounded by the unspoiled Son Tra Nature Reserve, with more than 4,400ha of old-grown forest and an incredible diversity of flora and fauna. The peninsula is rich in biodiversity, with 360 animal and 1,010 plant species. Walking around InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, especially in the early morning, guests may encounter variety of species considering this place home. Most notably, might be sighted, the extremely rare Red-Shanked Douc Langurs, with only around 1,300 individuals living on the peninsula, clamber up the trees and forage for food. This species is critically endangered and on the edge of extinction. Featuring five colours, they are nicknamed the Queen of the primates because of its mysterious beauty. The resort strives to provide a safe haven for wildlife.
