To many of us, the image of this season is one of golden leaves falling off the trees and a sky turning from blue to gray as Summer gives way to Autumn. But our tropical paradise is an exception. With the temperature around a pleasant 20 C - 25 C, you ll hardly notice Summer has officially ended. Many might think Autumn is not the ideal time to travel to this tropical peninsula, but we beg to differ. 6 INSIDER THE BRIGHTEST MOON in the Autumn When it comes to the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon is supposed to be at its fullest and brightest, Vietnamese people, especially the children, blissfully celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival (Vietnamese: Tết Trung Thu). Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important festivals in Vietnam, originally to mark the end of the harvest season. It is also thought that the festival was originally celebrated to give parents time to catch up with their children after the summer harvest was completed. On these autumn days, when the weather is getting cooler, everybody seems to be cheerfully ready to temporarily forget about their busy daily life and treasure the gift of time with their family. At Mid-autumn festival, walk around with lanterns lit. take them all across the town, singing to the autumn moon. Children enter this special month of the year with the inevitable joy, witnessing the town becomes filled with excitement as shops burst with vibrant and elaborate lanterns, masks and drums. The Amusement keeps growing when they start rehearsing their lion dance on the streets weeks in advance, filling the streets with the upbeat music from the beating drums and laughter. One week prior to the festival, groups of children will be spotted in front of the houses around town, trying to show their best lion dance moves, hoping that the owner will let them in to perform. Accompanied by a happily smiling moon-face God of the Earth ( Vietnamese: Ông Địa), the lion dance is believed to bring luck and prosperity to the owner of the house for the rest of the year. Another un-separated part of Tet Trung Thu is Banh Trung Thu, or Moon Cakes, a round cake, in the shape of a moon a traditional food which is inextricably linked with the Moon festival. Today, the approach of Tet Trung Thu is also signaled by the appearance of stands selling Banh Trung Thu all over the streets. As you are here during this time of the year, we highly recommend you don t leave without taking part in this spectacular celebration, especially the Full Moon Festival in Hoi An. After sunset, the whole town switches off all electric lights and uses only candle-lit lanterns, transforming the town into a colorful place to wander around. The old quarter becomes more lively with folk games on the streets, floating lanterns on the river and lion dances competition. 17 RESORT WILDLIFE KIDS ACTIVITIES TOUR AROUND SON TRAWildlife Habitat Star-shaped Mid-Autumn Cultural Lantern Activities Making One of the most privileged aspects of the resort s location is that it not only offers incredible beachfront experience, but is also surrounded by the gorgeous unspoiled Son Tra Nature Reserve. Our most illustrious residents are the rare and beautiful red-shanked douc langurs, a species of colobine monkey. This endangered monkey is listed in Vietnam s red book as very few are still around and Son Tra Peninsula is one of the rare places where the Douc can still be found today. InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is trying to support the conservation effort by spreading the information about our indigenous species to the guests.
