The name Magpie and Stump, according to our research, was first notably used in London, England. Just a few steps away from the Court House (Old Bailey), a popular watering hole was frequented by both lawyers and their clients. The colloquial slang of the day referred to legal professionals as 'STUMPS', while their more unsavoury clients were referred to as 'MAGPIES'. This led to the name Magpie and Stump. Prior to starting the business in Banff, we noticed that the Pizzeria, which was located right across from the Banff Courthouse, was catering to the same colourful mixture of clientele. and what would be a more appropriate Western theme name than Magpie and Stump?
