5 Cabernet Sauvignon The king of red wine cultivars, Cabernet Sauvignon is deep coloured with full complex and tannins. Today they are made for much earlier drinking whilst retaining their complexity. Excelsior There honesty cannot be many wines that are such good value for money, in particular this Cabernet. 6 Shiraz Better known as Syrah outside South Africa and is seen by many, as the great hope for South African wine. It is the most exotic of reds, with immense concentration and complexity. It has nuances of fruit, oak, spice and leather. Protea (Rupert Wines) Smoky dark fruit, class rather than voluptuous, It is smooth and appealing with spice infused flavours. Pinotage This cultivar originated in South Africa as a cross between Pinot Noir and Hermitage. It produces a medium to full bodied red wine with a highly distinctive, fruity character. Beyerskloof Very lightly wooded, this wine is with extraordinary quality and value. Uncomplicated, outgoing and very easy drinking.
