Don t forget about exercise. Drink lots of liquids. Benefits of Winter Winter can t be all bad right!?! Cold weather can bring us closer to family and friends. 4 Nectar N I B B L E S E A S Y R E C I P E S F O R S E N I O R N U T R I T I O N Cranberry Dip 1 (12 ounce) package fresh cranberries 1 cup white sugar 1 cup apricot jam 1 cup chopped pecans 1 (8 ounce) package of cream cheese Breakfast Sausage Casserole 1 pound ground pork sausage 1 teaspoon mustard powder ½ teaspoon salt 4 eggs, beaten 2 cups of milk 6 slices of white bread, toasted and cut into cubes 8 ounces of mild cheddar cheese, shredded Preparation: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine cranberries with sugar in a 2 quart back dish with a lid, stirring well to coat all the berries. Bake in oven for about 30 minutes, until the cranberries pop and release their liquid. Remove from over and stir in apricot jam and pecans. Refrigerate overnight to blend the flavors. To serve, allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature, and pour dip over the block of cream cheese. Serve with buttery round crackers or small pretzels. Preparation: Crumble sausage into a medium skillet. Cook over medium heat until evenly brown; drain. In a medium bowl, mix together mustard power, salt, eggs, and milk. Add the sausage, bread cubes, and cheese, and stir to coat evenly. Pour into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Cover, and chill in the refrigerator for 8 hours, over overnight. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cover, and bake 45 to 60 minutes. Uncover, and reduce temperature to 325 degrees. Bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until set. Peppermint Brittle 2 pound of white chocolate 30 small peppermint candy canes Preparation: Lane a large jellyroll pan with heavy-duty foil. Place white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in microwave on medium setting for 5 to 6 minutes. Stir occasionally, until chocolate is melted and smooth. Place candy canes in plastic bag, or between two pieces of waxed paper. Using a mallet or rolling pin, break the candy canes into chunks. Stir peppermint into melted white chocolate. Spread evenly in pan, and chill until set, about 1 hour. Break into pieces by slamming pan on counter.
