2 Max s Deli A Restaurant for All Ages We opened our first restaurant, a Chinese Jewish Deli named Max s Son located in Daly City in Building on that success we developed Max s Opera Café, Max s Café, Max s Diner, Max s Eatz, and Billy Berk s throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Thirty-years later we still hear that there aren t any authentic New York style delicatessens in San Francisco (there are actually only a few left in New York!). There are many reasons why delis are vanishing from the culinary scene, for example: Jewish taste buds are fading the younger generation thinks shmaltz is a rock group; Dietary habits are changing less fat, lower salt, and organic ain t exactly the roots of delicatessen. But we know, and you know, that a menu chock full of your favorites including knishes, latkes, sweet and sour stuffed cabbage, kasha, whitefish salad, pickled herring, and a takeout counter where corned beef and pastrami are ordered by the pound is just what the Dr. ordered! Eat in the bar when you want to get away from the madness, mayhem, yelling and screaming. We love kids, just not in the bar! Go ahead and have a drink too! An ice-cold beer is a mitzvah alongside a Reuben sandwich! A glass of wine with your stuffed cabbage will taste divine.
