The mimosa was imported from Australia to France via the Mediterranean coast in the early 19th Century by the explorer James Cook. It is a small tree that is highly valued for its aerial leaves and the abundance of strongly-scented golden-yellow flowers. Like the sun, the mimosa symbolizes magnificence, elegance and tenderness. Special characteristics: In the language of flowers, it represents feminine energy. This is why since 1946, it has been the symbol of International Women's Day which is celebrated on March 8 th. Branches of driftwood often wash up on its shores. The name driftwood implies a number of days, weeks, months or years spent in the seawater. Aquatic Wood is often used as a decorative or artistic element. Special characteristics: According to Nordic mythology, the first humans were created from two pieces of driftwood, one from ash and one from elm, by the Norse god Odin. One of the most famous pieces of driftwood is the Old Man of the Lake in Crater Lake, Oregon. The trunk of this tree has been floating vertically in the lake for over a century.
