1 Summer is upon us & with it comes the time to contemplate matters of great importance. It is with that thought we ask, At what temperature will an egg fry on a sidewalk in summer? 212⁰F 158⁰F 102⁰F 145⁰F Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. ~ Maya Angelou A few weeks after Parcel Post began in early 1913, an Ohio couple named Jesse & Mathilda Beagle mailed their 8-month-old son to his grandmother, who lived just a few miles away. Baby James was just shy of the 11-pound weight limit for packages, and his delivery cost his parents only 15 cents in postage (although they did insure him for $50). It took 7 years, until June 13, 1920, for the postal service to officially ban the practice of mailing children!
2 June, named after Juno, the goddess of marriage, is the 6th month of the year, & is one of the 4 months with a length of 30 days. Just like the month of May, no other month begins on the same day as June. June is also the month with the longest daylight hours of the year. 4 At what temperature will an egg fry on a sidewalk in summer? Answer: 158⁰F "I get by with a little help from my friends." The Beatles Q: Why don t mummies go on summer vacation? A: They re afraid to relax & unwind! Teacher: Johnny, please use the words letter carrier in a sentence. Johnny: Yes, ma am. My dad said that after seeing how many things my mom was bringing on summer vacation, he d rather letter carrier own luggage. Mary: My son came to visit for summer vacation. Sue: How nice! Did you meet him at the airport? Mary: Oh, no. I ve known him for years! "It's so hot you could fry an egg on the sidewalk!" Sidewalks in summer can definitely heat up, but in order to cook the proteins in an egg, the temperature has to reach 158⁰F or higher. Sidewalk temperatures in summer can vary greatly, depending on the sidewalk's composition. Whether or not the sidewalk is receiving direct sunlight & the temperature of the air also play a part in the temperature a sidewalk achieves. Most sidewalks are concrete, which tends to peak at a max temperature of 145⁰F. Conditions resembling a frying pan would more likely be on the hood of a car that sits in direct summer sunlight than on a typical sidewalk. Source: LOC.gov According to the Tea Association of the USA, Americans consume well over 55 billion servings of tea (over 2.5 billion gallons) a year. In 1904, New York City tea importer Thomas Sullivan became annoyed at the high cost of the tin boxes he used to send tea samples to his customers, so he switched to less expensive small cloth bags. One of the recipients brewed a pot of tea by simply pouring hot water over the bag and the rest is history! Cookbooks dating from the early 19th century indicate Americans have been drinking iced tea since that time. However, the beverage became generally popular after Richard Blechynden of the India Tea Commission offered free samples to attendees at the 1904 St. Louis World s Fair. In 2003, Georgia state representative John Noel tried to pass a house bill making it mandatory for all restaurants to serve sweet tea. The teaspoon was developed to easily add sugar to tall glasses full of iced tea. Approximately 80 percent of the tea served in the United States today is iced tea. The famous Long Island Iced Tea drink doesn t contain any tea at all! mobile-cuisine.com
