1 Patriot Times Red, White, & News! VOLUME 9, ISSUE 8 OCTOBER 11, 2018 Another Successful Cookie dough Fundraiser The end of the cookie dough fundraiser is here! On October 10th, the cookie dough was picked up in the cafeteria. If you could not make it, you had to send someone to pick it up for you. The money will be put forward to pay for field trips and different student activities, along with other school needs. The top sellers were Haleigh Bishop and Caden Smith in fifth grade, and Taylor Tenney in sixth grade. The reward for the top sellers will be a concert in the gym on October 16th. They will be gifted with VIP passes and can bring a friend. The concert is called The Fall Fun Fest. Other students will win prizes, too. Text by Kira Boyce; pictures by Rhea Yokum

2 PP AGE 2 AGE 2 V 9, I SSUE 8 VOOLUME LUME 9, I SSUE 8 O CT OBE R 11, 2018 Poem from TeachersPayTeachers.com Directions Pumpkin Spice Cupcake Ingredients 2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoons of ground nutmeg 1/2 teaspoons of ground ginger 1/2 teaspoons of ground cloves 1/2 teaspoons of allspice 1/2 teaspoons of salt 1 tablespoon of baking powder 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda 1/2 cup of butter, softened 1 cup of white sugar 1/3 cup of brown sugar 2 eggs, room temperature 3/4 cups of milk 1 cup of pumpkin puree Frosting Ingredients 1 package cream cheese softened 1/4 cup butter, softened 3 cups confectioners sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon Preheat oven to 375. Grease 24 muffin cups, or line with paper muffin liners. Sift together the flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove allspice, salt, baking powder, and baking soda; set aside Beat 1/2 cup of butter, the white sugar, and brown sugar with an electric mixer in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add the room temperature eggs one at a time. Stir in the milk and pumpkin puree after the last egg. Stir in the flour mixture, mixing until just incorporated. Pour the batter into the prepared muffin cups. Bake in the oven until golden and the tops spring back when lightly pressed, about 25 minutes. Cool in the pans for five minutes before removing to cool completely on a wire rack. While the cupcakes are cooling, make the frosting by beating the cream cheese and 1/4 cup of butter with an electric mixer in a bowl until smooth. Beat in the confectioners sugar a little at a time until incorporated. Add the vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon; beat until fluffy. 4 P ATRIOT TIMES P AGE 4 The football team got their first big win against Mountaineer Middle in Harrison County. Patriot Illustrated The girls soccer team has a makeup game against Bridgeport this Thursday. Both boys and girls soccer teams lost their games against Buckhannon Middle School. The volleyball team is on a winning streak. They won a game on Sept. 2 and Oct. 10. Boys soccer lost against Buckhannon, but won against Notre Dame. The next game on Wednesday, both boys and girls play against Taylor County. Mystery Student of the Week Guess the Mystery Student of the Week. 5 P ATRIOT TIMES P AGE 5 Teacher of the Week Mrs. Shearer is an amazing science teacher. She tries to make our science experience as fun as it can be. She does a lot of hands-on activities to help us. This is her second year at RLBMS. Mrs. Shearer s sister is Mrs. Lattea. Mrs. Shearer has a daughter who is two years old. She loves the outdoors and loves her students. Favorite color: Purple If you won a million dollars, what would you do with it? Donate to people who need money, and build a big log house. Ms. Kaia The new mystery teacher has been employed at RLBMS for three years. Facts about Eswatini by Morgan Robinson Eswatini is the new name for Swaziland. It changed its name in April, but did not change its flag. RLBMS s librarian, Ms. Kaia taught school in Swaziland from 1979 to Swaziland is a kingdom. King Mswati III has 15 wives. Students have to pay to go to school. They also all wear uniforms. Some Siswati words have clicks. Ask Ms. Kaia to say sichwichwichwi, which means an educated person. Every year, the Swazis celebrate spring with a ceremony called the Incwala.
