1 Recommended s and Shrubs for Urban Plantings Compiled by Woodsck Board June 2012 Introduction The following list has been prepa by the Board of the Town of Woodsck help guide you in selecting trees that are chosen for our area for hardiness, adaptability and disease/pest resistance. They have proven themselves in landscapes as solid performers and are readily available from your local garden center or other Virginia nurseries. We have organized the list by mature tree size, providing characteristics, such as fall color, aid in your selection. It is still recommended that you consult with a local nurseryman or arborist select the right tree for the right site. Hardiness All plants selected for this list are adapted this area of Virginia according the most recent USDA Plant Zone Hardiness Map. This refers cold hardiness, the ability of the tree survive within a range of cold temperatures in the winter. Adaptability All plants selected for this list possess the ability adapt the growing conditions in our area of Virginia. This includes facrs such as soil type and drought resistance, for example. This will assure that the tree will grow at a normal rate with a better chance of survival. Disease/Pest Resistance All plants selected for this list possess excellent disease and pest resistance compa other varieties and cultivars of the species. Foliar leaf spots and insect infestations can still occur with the right environmental conditions, although it is a less common occurrence with the trees listed.
