1 Baby Blanket Diagonal Rib This newborn baby blanket is soft and light weight and still warm and cuddly. The ribbed pattern gives the illusion or diagonal stripes and the cables up each side give this blanket just a bit of fun. For this pattern, you will need to know the knit stitch and purl stitch. Although it is fairly simple, the result will be stunning. The pattern consists of 8 repeating rows and it is recommended that you keep track of each row by using a row counter. Sizing can be altered by using different weight yarn and changing the size of the knitting needles. Following the pattern below will create a blanket that measures approximately 31 inches wide and 31 inches high. Two strands of light weight worsted yarn are held together throughout pattern. I used Bernat Softee Baby brand one stand of each solid baby blue and baby denim marl. I bought 2 skeins of each (4 total) which was enough for this blanket plus a hat and bib. Materials: Size 10.5 US Circular Knitting Needles 700 (x2) yards of light worsted weight yarn (size 3) hold 2 strands together throughout Cable Needle or Double Pointed Needle Darning Needle
2 Guide: K = Knit P = Purl C4F = Cable 4 stitches Making Cables: C4F Cable 4 stitches - Slip first 2 knit stitches onto double pointed needle and hold in front of work. Knit next 2 stitches from left hand needle then knit the 2 stitches directly from the double pointed needle. *TIP* Always start each row by simply slipping the first stitch from the left needle to the right (without actually knitting or purling), keeping with the pattern by holding yarn in front or back as if to knit or purl. This gives strength, reduces stretching and results in a nice clean edge. *TIP* I found it was easier to keep track of the pattern when I used a stitch marker between the tenth / eleventh stitch and the last tenth / eleventh stitch.
