2 T CASA ANADIA - HISTORY he origin of Casa Anadia dates back by descent, to King D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, and to the connection with the Sá (Colona) Pais, Amaral, Melo and Barberini families. Later, in 1786, D. Maria I granted the title of Viscount of Anadia to João Rodrigues de Sá e Mello, of noble descent, dating back to the 15th century. In the following year, she recognised him as the Lord of the Land of Anadia village, previously owned by the University of Coimbra. Such honour was largely due to the work of his father, Ayres de Sá e Mello, who was close to the Marquis of Pombal and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Defence during the reign of D. José I. Years later and after various successions, Miguel Paes do Amaral is the current Count of Anadia, with his official residence at the Mangualde Palace in Viseu. Historically, this family s farming know-how has been due to its hundreds of year s connection to the rural world, in the various houses and properties it used to own, in places such as Alferrarede, Mangualde, Gavião among many others. This secular experience gave them the know-how on olive oil and wine making. MISSION To keep up the family tradition and secular obligation to produce high quality olive oil, wine and other farming products. Allow these products from different terroirs to be enjoyed all over the world by people who value high quality products. 3 C CASA ANADIA OLIVE OIL asa Anadia olive oil is heir to an ancient tradition that dates back to at least the 17th century, when the ancient Manor House with a chapel were built, nowadays part of the Bom Sucesso Estate in Alferrarede, Abrantes. This Manor House s architecture reflects its clear rural tradition, with its various farming infrastructures, such as the olive press that remains today. At this olive press one can see a topographic plan dated 1819 that shows an olive grove already in rows, and taking into account the time an olive grove takes to grow, this one dates back to at least the time when the Manor House was built, in the 17th century. Casa Anadia olive oil is therefore the continuation of an ancient tradition in olive oil production. This is immensely relevant today and for the future as in a fast-moving world, roots are an increasingly important distinguishing factor. Tradition leads to know-how, building the personality of brands and the trust of consumers, clearly adding value to both. Casa Anadia olive oils are a result of three different terroirs in Alfarrarede, with chalky-clay soils and shale to the north.
