These trees are approved for planting under utility wires PICTURE SPECIES GROWTH ADVANTAGES USE AND LIMITATION Crabapple (Adirondack) Malus Adirondack 18 16 Slow to moderate growth Narrow obovate, upright branched growth; leathery dark green leaves; dark carmine buds turn lighter red and open to white flowers; fruit. Moderately resistant to most pests and common diseases. Crabapple (Candymint) Malus Sargentii Candymint Crabapple (Golden Raindrops Malus transitoria Schmidtcutleaf 8-10 12-15 20 Weight 15 Medium Foliage starts out dark maroon and leaves fade to green with veins and stems a reddish hue. Early spring buds start a deep carmine red, fading to a full pink as they open; dark maroon fruits. Vase shaped tree with deeply cut, finely textured leaves; turn bright yellow-orange, slightly purple and red in fall. White star like flowers with bright yellow centers, followed by tiny golden yellow fruit in spring. Prefers full sun; well drained, loamy soils.
