Conclusions: High nickel prices remained during the first half kept steel scrap availability high, but second half saw a major decline in many parts of the world. Decreased Stainless Steel production during the latter part of the year reduced demand and usage. EU 15 imports decreased by 170 000 t. Single European Country pictures were again very different: Increases in: Only Spain. Decreases in: Belgium, Finland, Germany and Sweden Balance in: France, Italy and UK. 35 Conclusions: Cont. China P. R. increased imports by 165 000 t. India increased imports by 60 000 t Korea Rep. decreased imports by 85 000 t. Taiwan increased imports by 50 000 t. Japan decreased exports, but increased imports, still building up as a major trading nation in stainless steel scrap. In stainless steel scrap were mainly exported from Europe to Asia,a reversal from. 36
