Franziskaner History The origins of Weissbier go back to ancient times, with the art of brewing becoming a prerogative of the Bavarian ruling noblemen in the Middle Ages. Today, Bavaria s breweries are world leaders in the production of Weissbier. Brewed according to the German Purity Law, Franziskaner Weissbier is one of the top examples of the art. Its name can be traced back to the oldest privately owned brewery in Munich, founded in 1363 next to a Franciscan monastery.
Franziskaner History The monk was first introduced as a trademark in 1909. The Munich artist Ludwig Holwein painted the monk as a cellar-master in 1935 which has been used as a registered trademark ever since. In 1968 the first Franziskaner Weissbier as we know it today is brewed. Franziskaner has developed into one of the most popular Weissbier brands in Germany with sales in over 50 countries. As a result, it first hit the 1 million hl level in 2003.

Consumption Experiences The Pouring Ritual Step 1: Step 2: Step 3: Step 4: Franziskaner should always be served at 6ºC in its own unique glass which helps to preserve the beer s aroma and create the perfect foamy head. To fully appreciate the flavour of Franziskaner. First rinse the glass thoroughly with cool water, check if the water runs uniformly down the entire surface. When pouring, first hold the glass at a 45 angle and gradually straighten the glass. But don t pour the whole bottle! Leave a rest of the beer in the bottle and gently swirl it. This way, the yeast can spread evenly helping to create a perfect foam head. Add the rest of the beer by pouring it vertically into the glass. Now you can enjoy your wonderfully fresh Franziskaner.
