Welcome To all Pioneer Hog members, We were sorry to hear about the closing of the Albany Harley Davidson dealership and there must be nothing worse than being an established club without a home. Many of us have ridden with you over the years as many of you have ridden with us and we would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Salem Rock n Riders, more commonly known as Salem HOG. We currently meet at the Salem ELKS Lodge at 2336 Turner Rd SE near the airport on the 2 nd Tuesday every month at 7pm with many of us showing up between 6pm and 6:30pm for dinner and camaraderie. Please feel welcome to visit us as a guest and see what you think. Another opportunity to meet many of us is to show up for one of our Friday s which are dinner rides leaving Salem Harley at 6:30pm every Friday evening for about a one hour ride to a different local restaurant for fun and food. Everyone is welcome. Karen Brown does a great job as webmaster and our website can be found at www.salemhog.org where you will find more information about our chapter, and past, current, and future events. Hope to meet and get to know you as the riding season continues, and if you have any questions, feel free to drop me an email. BK Chowder Ride by Bob Wiro Annual BK Chowder Ride Hosted by Larry & Lori Cole Former Pioneer Chapter members, now Salem Chapter members. For 5 years now Larry & Lori Cole have led their fellow Blue Knights to their current favorite Clam Chowder Restaurant. Larry has made it a mission to scope out the best chowder on the coast and has led us to many different places. This year we met Larry & Lori at the Dallas WalMart at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 4 th. Larry led the group 11 Bikes south on Kings Valley Hwy. Included in the group were Salem HOG members, Jim & Cheri Johnson, John Bowers, Tom Thornton, Bill Roberts and myself. We headed west on Hwy 20 to Toledo where we rolled through the town and along the north edge of the Yaquina Bay to the Yaquina Bay State Recreation area for a break as we arrived at 1:00 PM and out dinner time wasn t until 2:00 PM. There is something about Larry and Lori I should explain, they are camera shy, Lori always has a camera in hand but hides from the others! I was able to catch Lori with her new V-Rod Trike, a beautiful ride! Ata bout 1:50 PM we rolled over the Yaquina Bay Bridge, it wasn t windy for a change and onto Fishtails Café for our lunch! I do have to say the Clam Chowder was about the best I have ever had, not over filled with potatoes! And the hospitality fantastic! I recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting great clam chowder! For the return trip, Larry led most of the group north on 101 to Siletz Rd and back down to Hwy 20, I chose to head south for a ride up the Alsea River valley. A truly great day with friends and great food! Bob Wiro, Salem HOG Treasurer. Myself & John Bowers waiting for food!
