The vineyard of Alsace The winery Jean Geiler is located in Ingersheim, in the Alsace Region, west of the city of Colmar. 2
The wine making experience since 1926 engaged in a democratic and sustainable business model, based on ethical values 5 th March 1926 : 36 winegrowers from Ingersheim and neighbouring villages were faced with serious economic problems. In order to benefit from their vineyards and their skills inherited from preceding generations, they decided to join together in a show of solidarity by creating the Cave d Ingersheim, better known today as the Cave Jean Geiler. At that time the cellar could hold no more than 70000 litres of wine. 2016 : 90 years later, the winery Cave Jean Geiler is representing a large family of 176 winegrowers. Drawing on its founding values, the winery became actress of a fair and sustainable trade, guaranteeing the interests of its members and their commitment to service the quality of its wines. 3
The wine making experience since 1926 the synergy of Terroirs and Men An Exceptionnal climate : 1,800 hours of sun per year in the region of Colmar, with excellent conditions in Autumn and low annual rainfall of between 500 et 650 mm A patrimony of 390 ha in the heart of Alsace Vineyard : unique geological features with an extraordinary richness of soils and subsoils which imprint a different character to each varietal. Grapes biodiversity : growing the Alsace traditionnal main varietals : Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, Chasselas, Sylvaner, Muscat, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir, and also some Chardonnay for the Crémant d Alsace. Facts and Figures Cave Jean Geiler is classified at 9th position in the top 10 of the 216 major wineries in Alsace for what concerns the total amount of bottles sold in France and Exports - all Appellation Alsace included -. Traditional Know-how combined with modern technologies Wine growing advices, tracking of the plots, grapes selection 2 Oenologists, 1 Quality Manager and our own Laboratory Tracking software of the plots and strict control of the yield from the vineyards (Gismap/Millot system*) Qualitative sorting of the grapes based on the potential alcohol degree recorded as well as photographic analysis of the harvested grapes (Qualyris system*) In 2015 acquisition of a vibrating hopper for a full respect of the organoleptic quality of the grapes. 2 reception desks during harvesting time enables us to make 9 daily selections of grapes according to their quality level. 9 pneumatic self-thinking presses with a whole pressing capacity of 1280HL. These presses enable a quick processing of the grapes in an air-protected environment. 7
Tracking software Gismap C. Millot Our 2 Oenologists, are controlling each of the plots along the seasons with an integrated GPS system. They enter their comments and give their advices in the mini laptop and back at the winery they are forwarding the details to the winegrower. The winegrower can then do the necessary to get the best out of his grapes. This tracking software of the plots allows strict control of the yield as well as of the healthiness of the vineyard through the seasons. It helps to control the grapes ripening and to decide of optimal schedule for the crop. 390 hectares 3700 plots
After measuring the potential of alcohol of the grapes at their arrival at the crushing center, we are taking a picture of the bunches. The software Qualyris will analyzse their degree of alteration (healthiness and general state) translated into a percentage of alteration of the quality of the delivered grapes. Classified on a scale from A to D each plot is recorded and the classification will impact the income of the winegrower who produced them. Traditional Know-how combined with modern technologies mastered vinification process: preserve aromatic qualities, reveal the character of the Terroirs Fermenter tanks temperature controlled 180 tanks and casks with various volume for a total storage capacity of around 50000 hectoliters Ageing of wines on their lees several month to gain structure and more aromatic complexity Tangential filtering: (cross-flow) environmentally friendly, no loss of wine and respectful of the organoleptic characteristics of the wine filtered Automated bottling line completely sterile bottling at a rate of 9000 bottles per hours under controlled atmosphere to preserve the original quality of the wine, and first quality corking. 10
Traditional Know-how combined with modern technologies mastered vinification process: preserve aromatic qualities, reveal the character of the Terroirs Ageing cellar of over 2 million bottles located 6 meters underground level with natural air conditioning encircled by a phreatic layer providing perfect hygrometry and ideal temperature 13 to 16 C Shipping Warehouse with a storage capacity of more than one million bottles Air conditioned Cellar of 2200 m2 for the storage and the elaboration of the AOC Crémant d Alsace. This sparkling wine is elaborated with the traditional method including a second fermentation in the bottle. Maturation of 15 month on lath minimum and riddling: 20 gyropallets/automatic riddling racks.. 11

The Spirit of Conviviality and enthousiam A welcoming tasting room where many french and foreign visitors enjoy freely the tasting of all the Appellations Alsace: varietal, terroir wines and sparkling Crémant d Alsace. the «winstub» a tasting aera specially dedicated to the groups tastings or either «wine & Food» or other tasting events. the conference room «les Terrasses» with its view on the vineyards the vine-grower museum, witnesses all the evolution concerning the work and tools used by the vine-growers in the vineyards since the end of the XIXth century. This Museum is seen from the tasting room and offers a beautiful view of 2 monumental oak casks: among which the biggest and only one oak cask still in use in Europe (constructed in 1880), with 4,5m long and 4,2m wide, and a storage capacity of 47 200 bottles!!
