Our famous Danish pastries and strudels are freshly baked inside our stores, flooding them with a mouth-watering fragrance!
The croissant was invented in 1683, in Vienna, during the Turkish invasion. The Turkish invaders built a tunnel under the city wall, but the Viennese bakers, who were already at work, saw the vibrations caused by the digging operations in a bucket filled with water and triggered the alarms. To celebrate their victory, they invented a pastry in the shape of the Turkish half-moon.
In Demark, Danish pastry is called Wienerbrod meaning Viennese bread. In 1850, during a strike amongst bakers in Denmark, pastry chefs from Austria came to help and brought new recipes. The so called Plundergebäck became very popular in Denmark and after the labour strike the Danish adopted it.
