ONE WEEK PRIOR TO YOUR PROCEDURE START: Prilsec (meprazle) 40mg nce daily befre breakfast THE DAY BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE Fllw a CLEAR LIQUID DIET the day befre yur prcedure (see page 2 fr examples). The night befre yur prcedure (12 hurs befre yur prcedure) DRINK 20 OZ GATORADE OR PEDIALYTE. This will prvide electrlytes and energy fr yur weight lss prcedure. 1

Yu shuld have NOTHING TO EAT OR DRINK after the Gatrade r Pedialyte. That is a full 12 HOURS withut fd r drink befre yur prcedure. PROCEDURE DAY 3 HOURS befre yur prcedure, take: 1 DOSE OF EMEND (80mg). This will reduce pst-prcedure nausea. 1 DOSE OF GABAPENTIN (300mg). This will reduce pst-prcedure pain. 2 EXTRA STRENGTH TYLENOL (ACETAMINOPHEN) Please take any mrning bld pressure r heart medicatins with small sips f water. Otherwise, yu are t have abslutely NOTHING TO EAT OR DRINK the day f yur prcedure. If yu are n insulin r ral diabetes medicatins, please cnsult with yur physician t discuss adjusting these medicatins. Typically, we recmmend NOT taking yur diabetes medicatins the mrning f the prcedure, as yu will be fasting. Please arrive 2 HOURS prir t yur prcedure time. Check in at Day Surgery. A licensed drive (18 and lder) MUST accmpany yu and remain during yur visit. Plan n spending a minimum f 4 ttal hurs at the hspital. D n bring jewelry r valuables. AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE Yu will be bserved fr apprximately 2 hurs after yur prcedure. Yu will then be discharged hme. Yu may resume nrmal activity as sn as yu feel ready. Plan t take a minimum f 2-3 days ff wrk after the prcedure. Avid NSAIDs (ibuprfen/advil/aleve/aspirin) fr 2 weeks after yur prcedure. Take Zfran 8mg every 6 hurs fr the first 24 hurs, even if yu are nt nauseated. After the first 24 hurs, yu may use it as needed fr nausea every 6 hurs. Take Emend 80mg n the mrning after yur prcedure. This will help treat any nausea. Take Levflxacin, 30ml (2 tablespns), nce a day fr 3 days, starting the day after yur prcedure. This is an antibitic that will help t prevent any infectin. Take Prilsec 40mg daily every day fr 6 WEEKS. Yu may take Hycet (acetaminphen/hydrcdne) 5-10 mls (1-2 teaspns) every 6 hurs as needed fr pain. CONTACT US if yu are unable t maintain sufficient fluid intake, if yu are feeling dehydrated, if yu have severe abdminal pain, fever, r any sign f bleeding. DAY 1-3: FOLLOW A CLEAR LIQUID DIET Drink 64 z (8 cups) f clear fluids each day. Start slwly sipping n clear liquids. Examples: water, lw-sugar sprts drinks, decaf tea, chicken brth, Jell-, sugar-free ppsicles Avid beverages cntaining carbnatin, caffeine, sugar, and alchl. Carbnatin may cause abdminal discmfrt. Caffeine may irritate the stmach. Caffeine and alchl can cntribute t dehydratin. 2

Practice sipping beverages slwly. Drinking t quickly, gulping, and/r drinking t sn may cause discmfrt. When yu return hme after yur prcedure, it may seem difficult t get fluids in at first. Aim fr 4-8 unces f fluid ver an hur. Eventually yu shuld be able t take 8 z ver 5-15 minutes. Chew each bite apprximately 20 times r until liquid. Eat slwly, and stp if yu feel any discmfrt Eat prtein fds first, fllwed by vegetables, fruits, then grains. Cntinue t drink 64 z fluid each day (including prtein drinks) sipped between meals. Avid fluids during meals and wait 30 minutes after meals t resume drinking fluids.
