Preliminary Indications of the Dairy Situation, November, ' Preliminary estimates show November milk production at 1.2 billion pounds, 'p 2 per cent over the correqonding month a year earlier. For the eleven months, January through November, milk production is estimated at 17 bi].].ion pounds, subtantially the same as a year earlier. Dairy factories used 594 million pounds of milk in November, 2.4 per cent more than in November last year. This increase can be attributed, in the main, to a larger output of cheddar cheese which more than offset a decline in the production of creamery butter. For the past seven months, monthly cheddar cheese production has exceeded that of the corresponding months 1at year; in May the increase was 1.3 per cent and by November the margin had widened to 43 per cent. This has been the average increase of the last eleven months. the Estimates based on/monthly farm survey indicate that 141 million pounds of milk were used on farms, 4 per cent less than during November a year ago. Compared to last November, 4 per cent less niflic was consumed in farm homes and 1.5 per cent more was fed to livestock. Farmers included in the sample actually reported slightly lower milk production per cow than for November. This does not coniorm to indications of total milk production based on factory and other utilizations, but the difference is within the margin of error that may be attributed to the survey.
