GOLF NEWS By Chip Richter September 2011 There is still time to sign up for the Labor Day Tournaments: The Ladies Labor Day tournament is On Saturday, September 3 rd and the Men s Tournament is on Sunday the 4 th and Monday the 5 th. Please remember the Pro Shop will be closed on September 6 th,7 th and 8 th all day while we undergo our fall aerification and fairway conversions. This includes the practice facilities as well as the Bag Room. The Ladies Club Championship was rained out on August 6 th & 7 th has been rescheduled for October 1 st and 2 nd. Please mark it on your calendars. The Country Club of Harrisburg is starting a new men s event called the Laurel Cup and the first playing is on Friday, October 14 th. This event invites six local private clubs to bring 15 players to The Country Club of Harrisburg to play stroke play and count the best seven net scores and the best five gross scores. The entry fee is $75 per person which includes lunch, golf with cart, a tee gift and heavy hors d oeuvres after golf. If you are interested in signing up, please contact Chip in the Pro Shop. Something new for September, since the kids are back to school we are offering a series of free clinics for ladies with very little or no golf experience to learn the basics of the game. Clubs and range balls will be provided. If you have been telling yourself for years you should really learn to play, but you have not done it yet, here is your chance. The basic fundamentals as well as basic rules and etiquette will be covered. These clinics will be limited to ten participants per session and will be on Tuesday, September 13 th and Wednesday September 21 st from 9:30 AM until 10:30. Please e-mail me to sign up at crcccpro@aol.com and I hope to create some new golfers from these programs. We are also considering having an evening session for working moms in September, but we were not sure if it would have much attendance. If you would like to participate in an evening clinic, please e-mail me and let me know and if there is enough interest we will schedule one. Lastly, now is a good time for two things. First pick your partner and your foursome for the Closing Members event on Sunday, October 9 th. Second, if you have some credit on the books in the shop it would be wise to clean that up as soon as you can. A few fall things will come in but by the first week in October we will be as stocked as we will get until next spring. For the best selection, it is best to look now. No large scale sales are planned for the fall as our inventory is about where we want it as of now, so I would recommend against holding your credits hoping for a large scale price sale. The fall is a great time to play golf, I look forward to seeing you all around the club.

A jar will be on the first tee for people to make donations to the Wounded Warriors Project/Folds of Honor. For additional information go to: www.patriotgolfday.com Patriot Golf Day is the flagship fundraiser for the Folds of Honor Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides post-secondary educational scholarships for the children and spouses of military men and women disabled or killed while serving our great nation. On Labor Day weekend, golfers across the country are asked to add an extra dollar to their greens fees to fund Folds of Honor scholarships. The Patriot Golf Day campaign is jointly supported by The PGA of America and the United States Golf Association. The inaugural Patriot Golf Day in 2007 was started by Major Dan Rooney, Founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, F-16 Pilot, PGA Professional, and USGA member. On Labor Day 2007 Rooney asked golfers to add $1 to their greens fees. His request resulted in donations of more than $1.1 million from more than 3,200 golf facilities. In the last four years, golfers nationwide have been instrumental in raising more than $5.3 million through Patriot Golf Day events resulting in 2,000+ recipients in all 50 states and 41 PGA sections.
