Maya Angelou A Note from the President Presidents Message Hello Everyone, Welcome October. The month of our banquet (luncheon) on the 21st at The Sizzler restaurant. A time to reflect, rejoice and celebrate our family. Next year, we will have to entertain maybe a different weekend since our banquet is the same day as the NW banquet and to have so many members have to choose isn t fair. I am sorry about missing the September newsletter, with the trip to Texas, getting sick the day I got home and school starting up, I had valid excuses but that s all they are - are excuses. I was elected to be a leader and I didn t do a very good job. Please accept my apology. (I am to blame too as I just had my knee replacement surgery, was on pain meds, had Dr. appointments and Physical Therapy appointments going on so was not concentrating on the newsletter - so my apology too. Judy) I will try my best to keep you informed on what is going on and try to lead us all into a period of growth and unity. We do have elections coming up and nominations need to go out for treasurer and vice president. Judy Oliver has been so gracious to fill in for the remainder of Brett Martins tern. And I thank her profusely. Mary Ann Fowler has been our treasurer for many years and has done a very good job. But if anyone would like to move into a board position, these two positions are up for election. Next year will be president and secretary. I do challenge everyone to send Joanne Anderson those show pictures to update our website. We had a lot of fun and the decorations were fabulous (Thank you Marcia) but we need to get it out to the public how much fun we had and share our love of small equine to the world. Joanne is a talented avenue for us to have the privilege to use. Well that s all for now. I could just keep babbling about ideas for next year, workshops, clinics, membership drives, etc., but will save that for our November business meeting. I will let you know where that will be since The Chili Parlor has closed. Take care and hope to see you on the 21st. Your President, Gwen Rinkel Miniature Mouthpiece Page 2 PaPage 2

COMBINED DRIVING September 2017ay 2014 Page 3

HOME-MADE PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE SYRUP Something about Pumpkin Spice Latte screams fall! People go crazy, mad for this Home- Made Pumpkin spice Syrup and Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe. Fragrant spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves are happily wafting together in this robust pumpkin flavored syrup. It s got real pumpkin in it, it s easy to make and it tastes so amazing. Ingredients: 1/3 cup pumpkin puree fresh or canned 1 cup sugar or splenda 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1 1/4 cups water 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon cloves 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger Instructions: 1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. 2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally to keep syrup from burning. 3. Let mixture cook together like syrup and begins to coat the spoon (for about 10-15 minutes), then remove from heat. 4. Refrigerate in a heat-proof container. 5. The syrup will thicken a bit in the refrigerator, but will become syrup again when heated. To Make Pumpkin Latte 1. Heat 3-4 tablespoons syrup with 2 cups milk in microwave (adjust milk depending on pumpkin flavor desired) 2. Pour into a blender or whisk until frothy, for about ten seconds (to make it thick and prevent the pumpkin from settling on the bottom). 3. Pour 1/2 cup of the pumpkin spice mixture into a large mug. 4. Top it off with strong, hot coffee. 5. Add some whipped cream, a drizzle of caramel sauce, and a pinch of cinnamon. 6. Store the rest of the latte mixture in the fridge for up to a week, sealed. Shake before using. Recipe Notes You can also use 2 tablespoons syrup + 2-3 tablespoons of heavy cream instead of 1/2 cup of latte if you want another option, cutting down the fat. Add a couple more tablespoons to the syrup mixture, if you want more pumpkin-y flavor. If you use the best of spices, you even get more fragrant flavors. Yum! Miniature Mouthpiece Page 4
