指導老師 : 余淑惠 Self-introduction My name is Hong Chia-Yen. I come from Nantou. I am 20 years old, and studying at Ling Tung University. I have one younger sibling, my sister, who is a student too. My father and mother are physiotherapists. I have had a very strong interest in learning English. English is naturally my favorite course. English teachers, from both high school and university, really know how to help students to learn English in various interesting activities quickly and effectively. From them, I have learned how to remember vocabulary quickly and catch main points of a topic. In my opinion, English is important to Taiwanese students. If we want to join a large company, we must have an English certificate; if we want to study overseas, we need to pass TOFEL. Therefore, English plays an important role in our life. It is important for me to have a balance between school work and leisure activities. I enjoy different extra curricular activities. Since junior high, I started to join many associations, such as basketball team and journalistic English club, from which I have made many friends and gained many different valuable experiences. Besides, I have a lot of hobbies. I love watching movies, reading horror stories, and listening to music. I like outdoor activities too. I enjoy playing basketball, badminton, and soccer. These activities and hobbies help me a lot in making new friends and having a balanced life between study and play. ''Knowledge is power'' is my motto; therefore, I believe ''The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet''.
指導老師 : 陳文雄 An Unforgettable Person My most unforgettable person is Daphne. She is my best friend. We met at English cram school when we were in junior high school. She is kindhearted and optimistic. She always helps people who are in need. Whenever I have bad mood or in trouble, she always made me laugh and helped me solve my problems. She also gave me encouragement and told me everything would be all right. This is the reason why she is an unforgettable person to me. She really influences me a lot. I will cherish the friend forever.
指導老師 : 余淑惠 My Family My name is Chen Chia-Hua, and my English name is Nicky. I d like to introduce the most important persons in my life: my Dad, Mom and elder sister. My father is a street vendor selling roast corns in Kenting, a small town in Pintung County. He has his own recipe of dressings for roast corns. He knows very well how to control temperature to make corns tasty and tender. The corns he roasts are so delicious that there are always people waiting in line before his stand. My mother is a hairdresser and runs her own beauty salon. She has a full house of guests every day because of her great skills in hair designs. Her customers usually introduce new customers for her, and the new customers introduce their friends to come. My friends always envy me because I can eat delicious roast corns and get a haircut for free. I think my sister and I are very lucky because we have such talented parents. As for my sister, she is a college student majoring in medical science. From my understanding, it is a very difficult subject to study. I think my sister must be a hardworking and smart student. I like my sister very much because she is not only fun to be with but also supportive. Whenever I encounter a difficulty, she is always there for me and comforts me when I am sad. To sum up, I think I am the most fortunate girl in the world to be blessed with such talented and supportive family.
指導老師 : 陳文雄 An Unbearable Nuisance Cockroaches are the insects that frighten me most. Actually I wasn t afraid of them. I just can t stand them. One day I was sleeping and smelled a disgusting odor. I discovered a dead cockroach under my body and its eggs on my pillow! I almost died! I jumped off my bed at once and took a bath quickly. The experience made me hate cockroaches. What I find most disgusting is when I see a cockroach fly around the room. I m always afraid that they might land on me. Hearing the sound of its wings makes me nervous and afraid. Cockroaches pose a threat to our daily lives. A dirty environment will attract many cockroaches and this may threaten our health. They pollute food and water and bring many illnesses. I can t help shivering at the sight of them. So this is my unbearable nuisance.
指導老師 : 余淑惠 My Favorite Snack: Ice Cream I love ice cream extremely. I want to try different flavors of ice cream regardless of whether it is sold at a night market or a convenience store. When I was a child, I could not afford expensive ice cream. However, I can pay for ice cream myself now, so I am able to try different flavors but also various world-famous brands. My favorite brand of ice cream is Haagen-Daze. The first time I ate Haagen-Dazs, I fell in love with it! Haagen-Dazs is well-known for its delicious and luxurious ice cream. It has various flavors which you cannot find in other ice cream stores. My favorite flavor is Hawaiian kernel. It smells sweet, fragrant, and has a special mouth feel. No matter what flavor it is, Haagen-Dazs ice cream tastes creamy and smooth. It is so delicious that I cannot resist it. To be frankly, I think I am addicted to it, because one cone is usually not enough. Once in a while, I get the second cone right after I finish the first one. Since I came to Taichung to study 3 months ago, I have excitedly found some other great ice cream stores here, such as Cold Stone, Movenpick, and Swensens. They also serve various flavors of ice cream. I really can t wait to try each new flavor from these stores.
指導老師 : 陳文雄 An Unforgettable Chinese Dish The most unforgettable Chinese dish that I have ever eaten is dumplings. When I was a child, my mother taught me how to make dumplings; she said that when making dumplings, one must be very patient and careful. If you make mistake in any step when you are produced them, they will taste awful. Besides, the dumpling s dough must be pressed tightly; otherwise when you are cooking them, the filling will puff out. In that way, the dumplings will be spoiled. Since the experience is so impressed that up to the present whenever I see dumplings, they always remind me of my mother who taught me how to make dumplings and the moral she taught me Be very patient and careful.
指導老師 : 余淑惠 My favorite restaurant My favorite restaurant is called Mo-Mo Paradise. It is a hot pot restaurant, located on Park Lane, near the CMP. I like the restaurant very much for many reasons. First of all, they serve a lot of delicious foods. If you like hot pots as I do, I recommend you to try their sukiyaki hot pots, my favorite flavor. One more thing you can t miss is the pork. The hot pot soup and the pork are very special and different from those from other hot pot restaurants. I believe you will like them after you try them. The restaurant not only serves many kinds of delicious food but also many different drinks. You can have many choices of drinks Secondly, the restaurant has very high quality services. The waiters and waitresses are very friendly. They always wear a smile when waiting on customers. They give customers full attention and take the order very quickly. Their services make me feel delighted. I think this is why there are always full of customers every day. So, I suggest you to call and make a reservation for a table. Another good thing about the restaurant is the price. It is NT$299 for lunch and NT$399 for dinner. The service fee is not included. I think almost everybody can afford it. I like to go to Mo-Mo Paradise very much and I am addicted to their sukiyaki hot pot. I always have a good time whenever I go to the restaurant because I know I can enjoy the tasty food in a friendly atmosphere.
指導老師 : 陳文雄 An Unforgettable Chinese Dish When we talk about Chinese food, I always remember the wonderful oyster omelet in my hometown Changhua which is located along the seacoast of middle Taiwan. Just across from a wide oyster park, there is a snack bar that serves excellent sea food. I often visit the place to enjoy the most fresh and delicious oyster omelets the snack bar offers. The omelets they sell have very tender covers made of the mixture of starch and egg. Inside the bag-shaped covers, there are very rich fresh oyster fillings. They are skillfully cooked and stir-fried on a special frying pan. After the omelets are well-cooked, the chef covers them with fresh basil leaves and special sauces. They smell frying, steaming, and fragrant even from a block away. The taste is even better--tender, juicy, and crisp. They have made me addicted to them since the first time I had a taste of them. I have ever had oyster omelets around Taiwan and always enjoy the different tastes of them. However, the oyster omelets sold in my hometown is always my most unforgettable Chinese dish. When friends come to visit my hometown, I always insist that they go and have a bite of them.
