Commander s Message The SAL recently wrapped up their largest fundraiser of the year, the annual SAL Crab Feast. It was a huge success, even though setup was plagued by torrential downpours the week prior. Thanks to all of the volunteers that helped out. Mother s Peninsula Grill fortunately donated the use of their shuttle bus since we could not park on the field. We may do the same next year to aid in the congestion of the parking lot and the lack of handicap spaces. The more volunteers we have for these events, the better the results will be. We need to continue to work together to make the Legion a better place. The Queen of Hearts drawing is proving to be a big success for the Post. The additional revenue will allow us to make necessary improvements to the facilities and grounds. We have also brought on an additional bartender and some kitchen help so we can cut down on wait times. Prior to the next board starting, there will be rules posted to address how winnings will be paid out, who can play, etc. Keep an eye out. Now that the jackpot has reached a significant amount, taxes will also need to be addressed. We are on track for making our November membership goals. Keep up the good work. There are several incentives for us meeting our monthly goals. There are also personal incentives for recruiting new members. There is a $1000 award that goes to the Post that has the highest percentage over 100% and $300 cash award if a Post retains 100% of their membership at the end of the year. For the personal awards, if you recruit 15 new members you will be entered into a drawing and eligible to receive $250. If you recruit 3 new members, the Post Commander or Adjutant will submit a certification form on your behalf to receive a Legion challenge coin. So, keep track of those members you recruit. If you have any questions pertaining to Post membership, feel free to reach out. One last matter of housekeeping; the bartender on duty is in charge of the lounge. What they say goes for the television sets, thermostat, jukebox, etc. We have entrusted them with this responsibility and expect them to be fair to the membership and guests present. Thanks for everything the bar staff, managers and office workers do to keep us up and running. Jamie Southern Commander

2 nd Vice Commander Greetings Everyone! Let s bring you up to date on some of the business and entertainment going-ons for the last two months. We will start with the Jack of Diamonds (The Queen of Hearts continuation). We got down to 2 cards left and on October 18 th, we finally got that winner. Congrats Cynthia Frazier! There were definitely some growing pains experienced and we ve made some changes to make the next go around even better. Tickets for the next Queen of Hearts game are on sale now. Come on out and test your luck! The pot starts at $1000. Jamie Leatherman will be a new Hall Manager starting November 1st. Thank you Leila Herold for an outstanding job and getting the ball rolling again! I m sure you will continue to assist Jamie with the transition. You may have noticed two new old bartenders returning to the Post. Welcome back Yvonne and Dale. As of this writing, we are close to adding two additional bartenders to help with rotation issues and covering slots created by booking the hall more. We ve contracted with a new HVAC company. We are expecting an improvement in service. The Post Grill (formerly known as the kitchen ) will have some fare changes and new menus. These should be out by the end of October or early November. We are also improving the POS for the bartenders. Thank you Don Roberta Zimmerman for your time and effort in this venture. I want to thank all who support the Post and as always, please feel free to approach me and share your ideas to make our Legion home one to be proud of. Proud to Serve, Bernie Huot Historian Legion Trivia 1. Who in our Post s past was both Commander of the Legion and Sons of the American Legion? ANSWER: Past Commander Jordan 2. Why you should belong to the American Legion? ANSWER: Veterans helping veterans, families and communities. A great example was October 1, 2018, a past commander gathered members to help clean a home for one of our own, who was no longer able to do so. Thank you team This is why we love our Legion. Flash from the Past Historian, Andre' L. Milot

Auxiliary News Happy Fall Everyone, I would like to thank all of the AUX members that helped out for the SAL crab feast. The Legion Family really came together to make it a big success. Thank you to all the members who donated a cake or plant. The cake wheel was very successful again this year. Paint and Dine in September was a lot of fun, so mark your calendars for the next Paint and Dine on Friday night, December 14th. Tickets are on sale for $25. Doors open at 6 pm, Painting starts at 7 pm and food and beverages are available for purchase. The AUX had a great time with the Children's Halloween Party. Thank you to everyone who was able to make donations of candy and supplies and to Chris Adams for helping with the hayride. Mark your calendars for the CHILI COOK OFF Sunday November 11th from 2 pm to 5 pm. Only $5 to taste all 10 entries and vote for your favorite. Please remember your membership dues for 2019 is now being accepted. At the end of September, our unit was only at 25% of our goal. Message from the SAL Commander The SAL Crab Feast was a great success again this year. Thank you to all the volunteers from the SAL, Legion and Auxiliary who helped throughout the day. Also a huge thank you to the Northeast High School Marine Corps JROTC for all their help before, during and after the event. Without volunteers this day would not have been the success it was!

Message from the Legion Riders It has been a busy couple of months for the Riders, but we are still not done yet. We have the Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade coming up on November 17th. It will be an escorted ride that departs Post 175 at 1100 and travels north on Route 2 to Post 40 in Glen Burnie. There will be food, drinks and live music at the destination. We want to make this a spectator s event, so if you don t ride, bring your families to any business along the route so they can wave as we go by. We will be posting fliers along the route so they will be aware. And of course, Santa will be at the destination. Bring an unwrapped toy and a $10 donation for entry. All of the proceeds will benefit the Toys for Tots Program of Anne Arundel County. We will also be supporting Wreaths Across American at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery on December 15th. This event is not limited to Riders and we would like to include more support from the Post this year. If you cannot attend this event but have loved ones at the cemetery, let us know. We would like to place a wreath for you and take a photo so it can be posted on the lounge television set. Respectfully, Jamie Southern Riders Director WARRIOR DAY October 13, 2018
