Friday 14th October 2016 The Newsletter of King Henry VIII Preparatory School Academic Year 2016-2017 Issue 6 HEADS MESSAGE FORTHCOMING PREP SCHOOL EVENTS It is always a special pleasure as the Head to spend time in classes with children. This week I have been visiting both our youngest and oldest children and have been thrilled to see happy and engaged children, keen to participate and confident to ask searching questions of adults. As we open our school up to visitors at the Open House and Open Morning events I am sure that visitors will also be hugely impressed with our children and be keen for their own little ones to join the Henry s family. Thank you to families who have supported the school in allowing children to participate in these important events. Next week in assembly We will be thinking about the Harvest season and giving thanks for the wonders of the World. NURSERY NEWS Favourite Stories and Nursery Rhymes Following on from our theme of The Three Little Pigs, the children have been experimenting with a range of media and materials whilst making paper plate pigs, together with choosing their own design and deciding whether their pig is happy, sad etc. RECEPTION NEWS AUTUMN Thank you for filling your Autumn bags at the weekend! The children have absolutely loved emptying their beautiful collections, investigating items, using magnifying glasses and check lists to see what had been discovered. We went on to create a sorting table, talk further about texture; smooth, rough, spiky and sort the objects carefully. The Autumn trays are stunning, come and have a look! The children have had another busy week using various construction materials, together with the introduction of our large wooden building blocks. All children have enjoyed expressing themselves whilst using these blocks and building constructions. Most importantly they have had an amazing time. Together with houses and towers, we have had a range of items being built such as pirate ships and cakes! HARVEST We shall be celebrating Harvest Festival with our teachers next week. We would appreciate small Harvest offerings and donations of non-perishable food. Miss Cook will have our Reception collection box and these items can be sent into school from Monday October 17 th. Thank you. NEXT WEEK During our final week of Autumn 1 (can you believe it!) we will be exploring colours, sounds and feelings in the outdoor area. We re looking forward to roaming the field during Forest Fun, especially to roll in the leaves and feel them crinkle and crunch! The children have also been enjoying a full range of mark making activities, including large sand trays, and have drawn shapes and letters from their names using the implements. It has been great fun looking at the variety of patterns and marks whilst also enhancing their literacy skills. SNACK TIME Please remember to pack your child a healthy snack for playtime and ensure they have fresh water. We ask that you do not send crisps, biscuits or juice. No nuts or kiwi fruits. Thank you for your support. Next week we shall move onto talking about Harvest Festival. We would appreciate small Harvest offerings and donations of non-perishable food. These items can be sent into school from Monday October 17 th until Thursday 20th October. Thank you!
