PILSENER vs. PALE ALE beer = lager beer = ale 3a 3b
PILSENER vs. PALE ALE bottom fermented premium pale lager of pilsner style first produced in 1842 served at 7-9 C top fermented fruitiness the term appeared around 1703 applied to beers made from malt dried with coke lighter colour till 1830 pale ale = bitter now pale ale = bottled beer bitter = cask conditioned beer served at 12-13 C bronze copper colour
REAL ALE brewed from traditional ingredients cask conditioned (yeast + a little residual sugar = natural carbonation) matured by secondary fermentation unfiltered and unpateurised fruity undertones (apples, plums, oranges, nuts, etc.) 4a no additional nitrogen or CO2 pressure hand pulls, gravity taps the term coined by CAMRA in 1973 4b
