Racing Toward 2014 I just returned from a driving marathon to Florida with many stops along the way. Savannah, Charleston and Williamsburg were highlights as well as The Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral. It seems the space program is busy preparing for future visits to Mars! I saw manatees, alligators and various beautiful birds, theme parks and shopping malls, but I m glad to be home again in New York City. Stein Neighborhood Senior Center is at a pivotal point right now. We are celebrating our 40 th anniversary in 2014, looking to our past but planning for the future. Our modern, new space is almost perfect as we continue to tweak problems and solutions. In 35+ years of developing programs, I have focused on creativity and lifelong learning in enhancing the lives of seniors. Over the years, we have developed a variety of exciting programs that keep us informed. Our early stage Alzheimer s day program is a stimulating and supportive resource for members and caregivers and is going into its fifth year! The Feldenkrais Institute has completed 2 twelve session workshops at Stein with great success and is planning a study in January to measure the positive impact of using the Feldenkrais Method. The date is to be announced. We are getting inquiries regularly from prestigious institutions to collaborate in programs that will provide learning opportunities for our members. Our community linkages benefit Stein s participants as well as student interns. The Senior Companions program has begun and it promises to be successful in creating beneficial relationships for the companion and the senior. Please speak with Sandy Daniels or Jane Barry if you would like to be a companion or would like to have a companion. I wish you all a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season and an exciting New Year, 2014. To our members who are recuperating, get well soon- we miss you and look forward to seeing you again. Jane Barry Executive Director
