Elegantly round and perfectly sculpted, FAT bastard boasts a cheeky, new label that draws inspiration from the iconic French Topiary an art form appreciated for its style and structure much like our selection of FAT bastard wines! The THIERRY & GUY REMARKABLY FULL BODIED topiary has long been regarded as the final touch to remarkable masterpieces like King Louis XIV s Garden of Versailles; let that legacy live on with FAT bastard, the perfect finishing touch to any culinary masterpiece! Yummicus Cabernayem The story Good friends Thierry (renowned French winemaker) and Guy (British wine industry rebel) created FAT bastard almost by accident. It started out as an experiment Thierry had going in the back of his cellar, leaving a barrel on the lees (yeast cells). He didn t know what to expect, but when he and Guy tried the wine, Thierry exclaimed, with a strong French accent, Now zat iz what you call eh Phet bast-ard! This very British expression perfectly described the wine s wonderful color and round, rich palate, so that s what they named it. Initially launched in 1998, FAT bastard was born out of a partnership between renowned French winery Gabriel Meffre and Winebow. Sourced from the low-yielding vineyards of the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, the wines are remarkably accessible with a vibrant, fruit-forward style. With an emphasis on quality and a reputation as a brand that does not take itself too seriously, it is no wonder that Time magazine has referred to FAT bastard as, wine for the anti-snob.
Chardo Potimus Ippo Pinor Noratus CHARDONNAY PINOT NOIR SYRAH The grapes for the FAT bastard Chardonnay are sourced from vineyards in the Languedoc-Roussillon, spanning the banks of the Rhône in the east, Carcassonne in the west, the foothills of the Massif Central in the north, all the way to the Mediterranean coast in the south. This Chardonnay is rich, golden yellow in color with complex aromas of vanilla and honeysuckle layered with subtle nuances of oak. On the palate, this wine has a full body with an eruption of tropical fruit flavors that develop into a long, toasty finish. Sourced from select vineyards amidst the foothills of the Massif Central near the beautiful communes of Pézenas and Narbonne, FAT bastard Pinot Noir is a brilliant expression of the land from which it is made. The relatively high altitudes of the vineyards provide the optimal temperate conditions necessary for aroma and color development in the wine while the warm Mediterranean climate delivers fruit-forward flavors of crushed strawberry and delicate tannins on the palate followed by a long, persistent finish. FAT bastard Syrah is sourced from vineyards in the Minervois and Pézenas areas near the picturesque, fortified city of Carcassonne in Languedoc-Roussillon. These vineyards present optimal conditions for Syrah vines due to the stony soil and impeccable microclimate that come together to yield mature grapes with a high concentration of color and aromas. This Syrah is dark ruby in color with vibrant purple reflections. The nose displays a spicy, yet fresh profile containing tinges of olive, clove and sweet blueberry while the palate exhibits a robust body and invigorating flavors of paprika, tobacco, and peony.
Yummicus Cabernayem Sauvinaeus Blancia Maturem Merlilus CABERNET SAUVIGNON SAUVIGNON BLANC MERLOT FAT bastard Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from low-yielding vines grown in the foothills of Pézenas near the revered Minervois appellation in Languedoc-Roussillon. This wine is a beautiful ruby-red in color with rich and opulent aromas of black currant, crushed blackberry, cinnamon and pepper spices. A wine with a tightly woven texture, fine grain tannins and a long, persistent finish, this Cabernet Sauvignon is exceptionally expressive, powerful and smooth all at once. FAT bastard Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from Côtes de Gascogne in southwestern France, a zone well suited for growing this varietal. Careful attention in vineyard management and winemaking ensure the fruit-driven aromas and flavors of the final wine. This Sauvignon Blanc is a brilliant lemon yellow in color with green reflections. Enticing grapefruit, lemon grass and floral aromas intermingle on the nose while the palate displays fresh exotic fruit flavors and a pronounced, crisp acidity followed by a long, persistent finish. FAT bastard Merlot is sourced from select vineyards throughout the Languedoc- Roussillon. The area is known for its stony soil, which naturally limits yields and lends a fresh, fruit-forward character and mature tannins to the final wine. This Merlot is a deep, dark red in color with elegant notes of plum and black cherry followed by subtle nuances of caraway and black pepper. On the palate, it is fresh, full and juicy with solid mid palate weight and an expansive, round finish.
