Hedging is commonly used to delineate spaces and boundaries within or around gardens. It is kept low and clipped in formal gardens, and is often used as a parterre. There are distinctive types of hedging from the low or dwarf types that can be clipped easily into tight formal lines, or the larger varieties that form natural boundaries, as typified by species such as beech, hornbeam or leylandii. Small to medium sized hedges such as yew, holly and privet are also popular choices as are the informal flowering types such as Spireae Viburnum.
