Lw Fiber Diet What is it? Care: A lw fiber diet means eating fds that d nt have a lt f fiber. Fiber is the part f fruits, vegetables, and grains nt brken dwn by yur bdy. Fiber and waste prducts frm the GI tract are called residue. Residue is what becmes the stl, r bwel mvement (BM). Yu may need a diet lw in fiber if yu have diarrhea r cramping. Yu may need this diet if yu have bwel prblems r have prblems digesting certain fds. Yu may need t eat fds lw in fiber after surgery until yur bwel returns t nrmal. A lw fiber diet will make yur BM smaller. Yu may need extra water r a stl sftener t have BMs n a regular basis. The fds yu shuld and shuld nt eat are listed belw. Limit dairy fds like milk and cheese t 1-2 small servings a day if yu have truble digesting them. D nt eat any dairy fds if yu d nt digest them well within a few days. Yu may be able t eat the fds yu usually eat when feeling better. Serving Sizes: A serving size means the size f fd after it is cked. 1 cup (8 unces) f fd is the size f a large handful. 1/2 cup (4 unces) f fd is abut half f a large handful. 2 tablespns (Tbsp) is abut the size f a large walnut. 1 tablespn (Tbsp) is abut the size f the tip f yur thumb (frm the last crease). 1 teaspn (tsp) is abut the size f the tip f yur little finger (frm the last crease). Three unces f cked meat, fish, r pultry is abut the size f a deck f cards.

1 unce f cked meat, fish, r pultry is abut 1/4 cup (c). One unce f hard cheese is abut a 1 inch cube. A serving f vegetables is 1/2 cup (1/2 handful) cked, r 1 cup (full handful) f raw vegetables. Breads and Starches: Chse items made frm white r refined flur. Avid thse made with bran, wheat germ, nuts, seeds, whle wheat flur, r added fiber.
