Historical information: All modern vodkas are made only by dilution of pure 96% ethyl alcohol by purified water until 40% vol. This technology became possible only in the middle of the XIX century when the alcohol rectification columns (fractionators) were invented. The fractionators were imported to Russia at the end of XIX century. Before all strong alcohol beverages were produced in Russia, as everywhere in the world, in the pot stills. During long 400 years Russian distilled Bread wine was close to the taste of non matured Scotch or Irish whisky, very rich in the natural taste and aroma. 1751 2011
Modern vodka production The modern spirit plant makes 96 % pure ethyl spirit in alcohol rectification columns (fractionators) from grain, potato and beet. On Russian laws GOST (state regulations) spirit "Lux" supposes 30 % of potato raw materials, spirit "Eхtra" - 60 %. Almost all the world s nations enjoy rich and intense aromas and flavors of their home-born distillates that bear the properties of the original primary products, such as it goes with barley in whisky, with grapes in grappa and cognac or agave in tequila. So it is most unfair that Russians are deprived of the pleasure to drink a vernacular and close-to-heart rye distillate that was preferred by their forefathers between the 16th and 19th centuries when there was still no alcohol rectification, but just distillation.

There are cool and spicy hints and I can not even explain what they resemble me. I was really surprised when discovered its strength. By smelling I appreciated it of 50-55 % alc. vol. And I'm pleasantly surprised that such a strong beverage is quite easy to drink. I attribute this to the properties of distillates, which in the good distillation save a lot of light and heavy ends components, here they are harmonious and have no harsh taste. Once the sample is heated, the nose immediately coarsens. The taste is powerful, prickly and rather aggressive,with bread tone. This is not to say that the strength of the drink is 61%. At a guess you can not give it more then 50%. The drink is definitely original, with specific individual profile. In blind" testing it is difficult to determine what you are dealing with, but at once it is clear that it is certainly not vodka. I recommend to drink «Krivach» well chilled, by shots of 20-25 grams. It is best to apply for an aperitif.
